I just rode home on my motorcycle, and last night I was bicycling/running. Don't let the weather stop you unless it's a thunderstorm outside. The biggest reason Houstonians decrease their outdoor activities is lack of quality winter gear. People also gain a lot of weight over the holiday season because they stay indoors and consume too many calories.

I wear Arc'teryx base layers, fleece for insulation, and a GORE-Tex outer shell for wind and water protection. I'll also wear a balaclava, gloves, warm wool socks, and comfortable winter running shoes. This all keeps me toasty and dry (sweat is the biggest killer). I'll run unless it's -10 degrees Fahrenheit in which case I stay indoors and swim in a heated pool or exercise on the cardio machines.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I like how people will COMPLAIN during fall that it's TOO HOT and that it's TOO COLD. Nice.

ALWAYS wrap your pipe. You don't want water breaking out later.

Had to pick everything in the garden before the first freeze a couple of days ago...anyone have any good recipes for a 5 gallon bucket of green tomatoes? Pickled peppers and okra this morning, making zucchini and eggplant ratatouille tonight, but I got nuthin for green tomatoes (other than frying a few)

    This is great advice!

We should see some gradual warming tomorrow into Sunday with rain chances on the rise especially Saturday night. Another front will come through Sunday afternoon/evening and reinforce the cold air we are currently experiencing. The next chance for freezing temps should be Monday night into Tuesday morning.

You didn't read the part where I said it was for running. For riding, expedition base layers plus fleece under my normal gear does the job until 15 degrees at 100 mph. Colder than that, I wear electrically heated gear.

This. I'm in Boston right now and just went on a great 5-mile run along the Charles River last night. As long as you're properly dressed, running in anything above 25-30 degrees is fine.

You didn't say it was for running but I'm just glad you aren't wearing shoes on a bike. What is your normal gear?

Also where do you live to get 15 degrees and feel you need to go 100? When it drops below freezing I stay below 70 lol.

wore a tweed blazer and my assassin gloves and it felt quite glorious. I even feel like putting up my christmas decorations but that would be pushing it a little.
