Surprised Swoly chose to correct grammar instead of dropping the obligatory "That's what she said" on this entire post.

    Very disappoint.

Don't really have that bad of a flying experience except for air sickness and cramped seats in China Airlines.

I'm a fairly big guy 6-4 240 so I take up all my seating area. Had a guy that was my height but about 4bills at the window seat. Im in the middle seat with another big guy to my left. Window seat guy had his left leg 6 inches in to my space. This guy's leg was right against mine. It's a full flight and believe me aint no one switching. I got up and stood up at the back of the plane when I could feel this guys sweat coming through my pant legs. The stewardess let me sit on the jumpseat.

Had a girl boarding the plane puke on me and 3 other people as she was passing our seats while she was walking past us.

I flew Delta into LGA - which is the domestic airport for NYC.

I probably can meet up for lunch tomorrow or over the weekend if you like.

Ok that sounds 10 times more horrible than any transportation experience I've ever had. You win.

You deserve it especially since you claim to be 6' 5" 250+ pounds.

I once flew from Singapore to Houston which is a 26 hour trip including layovers. Could not sleep at all. That kind of sucked. I was pretty miserable towards the end.

The best solution for noise is to use foam earbud tips with your earbuds, which pretty much act like earplugs. It reduces 40% of the outside noise, so you'll still hear the engine. That plus music is enough for me to sleep through crying babies.

I've seen a bit of people on planes who buy Bose QC noise canceling headphones, which are impressive, but are also pricey. The sound quality isn't also as great as the price asks for, but the isolation is top notch.

I guess if you're anal retentive about music, then you could wear both, the foam tips with nice earbuds plus the Bose just for noise canceling.

This is what I did for long flights when I wanted to try and get a "normal" nights sleep. It wasn't about the music so much as just blocking out everything else. I would put on a the planes classical station or my own easy listening playlist. Dead to the world...plus the unisom and a couple glasses of wine helped too. I could usually be out pretty solid for 5-6 hours.

Xanax. I have a low dose prescription that I use solely on long flights (6+ hours). I slept 12 straight hours from Johannesburg to Atlanta, woke up for an hour to eat, then slept around 3 more. Of course it did help being in Business class and having those nice pods to sit/lay down in.

Remember that storm that hit Chicago last November?

The one that happened during the Bears game where it looked like the apocalypse and the stadium was evacuated?

    <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/KOyB6KdDmzY?hl=en_US&amp;version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/KOyB6KdDmzY?hl=en_US&amp;version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I flew into that. We were coming back to Houston from DC with a layover at Chicago Midway. We were the *last* plane to land that night. The last 20 minutes of the flight were the most terrifying moments of my life. The plane shook like a child's toy. I nearly vomited several times. When we finally landed, the entire cabin ERUPTED into applause and cheers for the pilot. I'd never seen anything like it before.

Flying to Australia from San Fran. 14 hour flight time. Was sitting next to a couple going on their honeymoon. First time flyers or something.

Wife throws up 2 hours into the flight. Husband throws up right after.

12 hours of them freaking out and my aisle smelling like puke.

I went through something similar in 8th grade coming back from a class trip to D.C. We had to land in Austin because the storms in Houston were so bad, even though it was storming in Austin as well. Bumpy as hell the last 10 minutes or so and there was a girl across from me who was crying because she was already terrified of flying. Not much applause when we were landing it was actual pretty quiet. The little b*stard sitting next to her made a loud "KABOOM" right in her face and nearly the entire plane screamed.

Anyone ever use or been on the receiving end of one of those devices that was on the news a while back, that prevent the passenger's seat in front of you from reclining?

They caused quite a few fights, delays, people getting booted etc. Surely banned by now.

I was on a flight from San Diego to Houston a number of years ago. Shortly after the flight took off, the captain came on and said we had to head back to San Diego because the hydraulic system wasn't working. After a few minutes he said that we would fly over the ocean to dump some fuel, but not to worry because that was normal procedure. He then came on and said we were going to LA instead of SD because they are better equipped to handle the situation, but not to worry because that was normal procedure. He then came on and said we would be towed in instead of taxing in once we landed but not to worry. Prior to landing (we had been in the air 90+ minutes by this time) he said that if we looked out on the runway we would probably see a lot of emergency vehicles, but not to worry because that was normal procedure.

All that being said, the subsequent flight from LAX to IAH after landing and getting rebooked was worse.

13 hour flight from Toronto to Hong Kong, sat beside a rather large man who smelt like shet and constantly leaned over when he fell asleep.

I just constantly walked around. throughout the flight.

Had an 8+ hour flight super early in the morning. The pilot recommended everyone get some sleep because of the time change we'd face when we landed. Pretty much everyone did... except the two people who sat down behind me and talked the entire flight. They didn't know each other at all, but then told each other their life stories over the next 8 hours. I did my best to ignore them but I couldn't fall asleep. At the end of the flight I knew more about those two people than I did about my own wife.

But what could I do? Ask them to stop being friendly to one another? They weren't being loud, but they were loud enough to where I couldn't go to sleep. So for 8 hours I just had to sit there and listen to their shallow and lame tales about everything either one had ever done in their ****ty, boring life. I've never heard or seen anything like it before. 2 strangers just start talking and don't stop for 8 hours. WTF.
