http://youtu.be/eVBzSQwQ-UA When the game is on the line there is no one else I would rather have with the ball. I saw a stat his senior year of college that was very telling. Something along the lines of points per possession in the last 10 seconds of the half or the game. Canaan was by far #1 in the country. As you have seen in his limited time playing for the Rockets, when the shot clock is running out, give him the ball at the top and more than likely you will come out with points. The percentage he can shoot off the dribble in that situation is off the charts.
I'm loving what I'm seeing out of Canaan, he has been better on D then i thought he would. I hope he keeps it up. On O i definitely think he will make up if not exceed what we were getting from Lin.
You are making zero sense. Harden is a top 10 player in this league, a perennial All-Star, and likely a perennial All-NBA player. Of course there's no need to start a thread announcing that he might turn out to be a good player for us after all. Canaan came into this season largely unproven -- a question mark. He has played very well on both sides of the ball in Bev's absence, which has been a great relief to a lot of people who weren't quite sure about him. So yes -- it makes sense to start a thread acknowledging that he appears to be a good player after having had a handful of games to draw that conclusion. Not sure what's so confusing about that.
I've said it for a while now......he's Lowry 2.0 with a better shot and less finishing ability at the rim. Same build...same general approach to the game. What's great about Canaan is he will defer to Harden, whereas I don't think Lowry would have. With Beverley, Canaan, Johnson and Llull in the fold, I don't think you make a trade for a PG unless it's an all-world type upgrade......players like CP3 and Curry. Don't think Dragic and Rondo fall into that group.
I'm saying just base on the title alone, we know Canaan isn't good enough, or else we would have no discussion about it. Better title may be something like "Canaan has exceeded our expectations".
Good enough for what? A superstar? We all know he isnt so I'm still unsure on what you are trying to say.
Good enough for what? Almost everyone in the thread has expressed the opinion that he is good enough to be a serviceable backup, and he's obviously good enough to step into the starting lineup in Bev's absence. You may not like him or think he is "good enough," but that doesn't make the title objectively erroneous. I have my suspicions about why you might take issue with this particular thread / people praising Canaan, but I'll leave it.
If you don't like the title of the thread why not just avoid the thread and go start your own thread? That makes a hell of a lot more since than posting in a thread about how you don't like the title or subject matter. You may be a good dude but it makes you look like a jack ass.
Good enough to be called a good player. My opinion is clear from the beginning. By re-enforcing Canaan is a good player itself is admitting he's questionable as a good player. I am agreeing with that fact and stating that he's not good enough to be called a good player. Why is this so difficult to understand?
Canaan is basically a rookie. Rookies, unless they come out of college heralded as the second coming of christ, are never good players.
"good" is a very subjective word. All NBA players are "good" players or they wouldn't make to the NBA, but at the same time, we normally say "good" as in above average. Canaan has certainly exceeded my expectations by stepping his game up, but I wouldn't call him above average. Will he become above average player? Quite possible, but he's not at this moment. Maybe you can call him a good 2nd year rookie.
Of course he was questionable as a good player, seeing as how he'd never played more than garbage time minutes until now. You don't think he's any good. Others do. That's fine. But the whole "this thread existing is evidence he isn't any good" is completely nonsensical and lacking in logic. Carry on, though.
As the author of this thread title, I just want to say I did not go into this much thought in thinking about the title. I simply thought to myself after watching this guy start 3 games, "Hey, this Canaan kid is pretty good." and wrote the title with that thought in mind. KlutchQT put it best in that how in the world you can read so much into the wording of the title?
I like that Canaan is deferring to Harden, but he's doing it too much....to the point he's passing up open 3s.
