I think you're the one putting too much emphasis on this. I don't have any feelings of superiority over anyone for what they choose as a entertainment hobby.

That's a pretty dumb comparison considering most people choose which teams they root for based on geographical presence. Not letting a pitcher hit and letting some guy hit who doesn't play defense is not quite the same thing as someone moving a team to a completely different state.

And I wished they'd just go away instead of posting in here how they're not dummies and those who still follow the team just aren't sophisticated enough to look down upon AL baseball.

indeed you aren't. My initial remark wasn't directed at you, either. There are those who seriously carry an air of moral superiority because they consider themselves a "true fan". It's complete utter BS. You don't fit in that category.

It's a ludicrous comparison indeed, except that in both cases the fan is no longer a fan. I reached for the extreme on purpose.

me, too. I hate AL "baseball". But not enough to quit following my Astros. That does not make me a "true fan" or a unicorn. It means I still follow the Astros, while others have chosen not to.

    Go Astros!

Baseball hasn't been the same since the early 20s when the Yankees had Babe Ruth stop pitching and exclusively play the outfield/bat.

Since then it's been gimmickball. I mean really, fielders and hitters that don't PITCH! Play the whole game!

I understand that you neanderthals can't tell the difference, but for a true fan like me, it's just not the same game.

Sometimes I forget where I'm posting.

Oh, none of that is meant to be taken as an insult. It's not your fault that you are all dummies and lack sophistication like me. You are an embarrassment as a fan base. No offense!

Football's recent rules changes regarding safety have changed the game greatly from years ago. Yet, certain posters are still a HUGE fan of the sport... then equate an added DH as morphing baseball to cricket.

Just sit back and enjoy the hypocrisy.

You'd be better off just saying you don't get it. Anyway this thread has been off topic long enough, let's get back to talking about Jeff Bagwell instead of whining about how some people stopped following the Astros when they stopped playing real baseball.

I'm not. I considered going that route for a while, but I was an Astros fan for WAY too long to root for a former rival. Now I'm barely a casual fan and I only really talk baseball when talking about the past when Houston had a team.

People also stopped following the Astros when they were losing... which is part of why it was so "easy" to move the team to the AL.

If they had been winning, not only would there have been far more uproar to possibly prevent the move... but even if the move happened, there'd still likely be a big following.

The bad years (partly by design), along with the lack of TV coverage, have killed most baseball interest in this city. Sure, people will come back when they start winning again (although it won't be as instantaneous as some here may think it will be), but for right now the Astros (and baseball as a whole) are mere afterthoughts in this city more because of the plight of the team rather than simply switching leagues.

We're going to begin a campaign engaging writers who did/didn't vote for Bagwell and we could use some Fav/RT-ing. A lot. So spread the word - or Tweet, I guess. Thanks, everyone, for your help. Fav Buster Olney.

I started following @Bags4Hof and now the real Jose Bautista is following me. Has this happened to anyone else?

No, he means 'we'. That Twitter handle/blog is not HeyNow, even though they've plagiarized some of his ideas. If you don't want to participate, then bully for you.

As if anyone needed further evidence of the BBWAA being a clown show, their new President is none other than former baseball writer JdJO. Apparently actually covering baseball as a job is not a prerequisite for the position.

This may help Bagwell's and Biggio's HOF cause, I dunno, but it's real difficult for me to take that organization seriously.

Not only does there not seem to be any form of campaigning among the members, they're openly hostile with one another, especially, re: PEDs and advanced statistics.

JdJO is a big Bagwell supporter; I'm fine with him being president, just in case he does wield any power/influence.

Joey Bats has been following me for a long time. I'm guessing his follows looks like some celebs followers list. He follows everyone.
