I don't even understand how this is a story. Half of the NBA players don't place their hands on their chest or sing the anthem anyway, and neither does half the audience at sporting events. Why single out one person's reason for not?

    I was kidding, chill.

And you're right, Dion Waiters is a selfish player with a lot of talent, but his attitude always end up holding him back and perhaps pave his way out of the league.

No point to skip it. Just don't put your hand over your heart or look down. Just stand there waiting for tip off. No point to not come out with your team.

You aren't supposed to put your hand on your chest for the national anthem.

Does he stay on the court for the Canadian Anthem or is that against his religion too

I'm glad someone is trying to act like he knew better all along, as usual.

    Basically, Waiters is an idiot.

And FranchiseBlade is relieved that he can act like he knew all along and that he can sit on his high horse.

The U.S. does not stand for tyranny. People who cause tyranny under the guise of the U.S. stand for tyranny. Language is an important part of reality. Since noone is able to point the finger to a certain group, every American, Islam, Buddhist, Christian, Mormon is pigeon-holed as a Tyrannical American. I am willing to say that 99% of Americans care more about providing for themselves and their family more than ISIS or EBOLA. That is all.

People get their panties all wadded up in knots over the strangest things. I have not placed my hand over my heart during the national anthem since grade school. Almost every American is loyal to their country, and perhaps strict adherence to Nationalism is a bad thing for this country. Does it lead to complete cluster*ucks like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Probably. Adhering to a belief of "my country right or wrong" is a despicable viewpoint. Just saying.

    Genuine question:

How do Muslims in Iran/Iraq/Pakistan regard the national anthems of those countries? What happens to those in those countries who abstain from/protest those countries' national anthems?

I guess that is the difference between the US and those countries. Being pilloried on the internet is much less painful than being jailed for an extended period of time. That is a microcosm of the difference between first world countries and everyone else. We, as citizens, should expect no less.

Some of you are confusing the pledge of allegiance with the national anthem.

I personally will never ever recite "one nation under god". It goes against my lack of religion and is just a platitude to 99% of the population. What really matters is for the majority of Americans to go out get a job, become productive, save money and pay taxes. And of course we need a hundred thousand Americans to enter the military every year. Being a good citizen of a great nation is not all that complex.

I admit I'm one of them. Like I said, I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, so I never participated in these events. :p

Is there a rule in the nba that requires him to be out there for the national anthem?
