To add on, yes I do smack talk with fellow fans on different teams. The difference? At the end of the day or even sentence, it's all good fun and humor. It doesn't change the way I feel about my team at all. A proper analogy would be how a parent feels about his or her child. Sure they feel proud when their child is praised, but even if no one gives their kid a 2nd look, they still love their child and has the same pride. To some it up, you either like the team or you don't. No amount of respect from 3rd parties would/should change that. If I came across as harsh, I apologize (a bit) though I do want you to understand I was not talking about you, but rather people who actually think like that.

You both are misunderstanding my posts.

It had nothing to do with whether you like the team or not.

I am not saying that you need others to respect your team for you to like your team. Not at all. No matter what most of us are rockets fans.

I am saying that you want your team to win so that others... No matter what they thought before are then forced to respect that your team is the best... And bragging rights. Look at the super soccer fans, a big reason they want their teams to beat thier rivals is so that they have those rights to brag.

I mean I hear it so much. "I really don't want the cowboys to win, I'll never hear the end of it at work
    .."

The rockets are one of the most hated teams among fans this year or seems so, and if they were to pull off a magical season.. Then all the disrespect that people say about them...

    Harden is a choker.
    Dwight will never win.

That stuff goes down the toilet and people... Everyone... Well be forced to respect what they have done.

Earning respect is a big motivator for a lot of players too, you can just read it in their quotes...

There are times when a team is bad and a lot of fans will say something like "just beat this team.." When talking about a hated rival. Why? Well one they hate the team and two it's just about bragging rights. Especially if the team is better off losing for a higher pick.

Respect is overrated. Ws are what count. Love this team, love the new culture and the chemistry. I just hope no one has a coronary after our first loss, everyone knows a loss is inevitable but the shock and teeth gnashing should be epic anyway.

In any event, we all should just be grateful to be experiencing this historic start. Relax and enjoy folks, this team is for real.

On the contrary, respect and bragging rights are probably some of the most important thing to sports fans, even if they do not realize it. It's not as if you as a fan get some utility from the team just winning. You're not getting compensated for it.

Even if a championship is won, it doesn't really mean anything if you cant be like "hey I support this team and they won. Man this feels good." Well, why does it feel good?

There are a few reasons. These include:

    1) The enjoyment of watching your team win.
    2) Being able to enjoy those moments with your fellow fans and city.
    3) Bragging rights and being able to fondly talk about it with other people.
    4) It feels good when the media and fans of other teams acknowledge your team. Especially if they were "hated" before.

It's not just about bragging rights. It's proving people wrong.

'Dwight doesn't take it seriously dude can never win'
    'Harden doesn't care about winning'

Would LOVE to shut these ****ers up.

I want to change the narrative on these guys.

Personally, I disagree 100% with this. Take for instance, when the Rockets were stuck in mediocrity trotting out AB/K-Mart, I could care less that I couldn't brag how awesome my Rockets were doing. That did not take away from the fact that I still enjoyed watching and rooting for the Rockets. Mav fans ribbing how we didn't even make the playoffs didn't make me care about or feel less proud watching the Rockets play. I enjoyed the team, because it's the team that I like and like to watch. Bragging feels good because humans are, by nature, punks. We like rubbing things into other people's faces. That has nothing to do with being a fan, but is rather a byproduct of being human.

Honestly the ONLY praise I really care about getting is Grantland praise. Because it's guaranteed to be interesting and well written, and guys like Zach Lowe and Kirk Goldsberry are super smart.

would love to get some Harlabob love too, but he's super anti-McHale

The Rockets dominate the Warriors every year and no eyebrows ever get raised.

Too early in the season to get too excited. Playoff wins will get me excited.

Warriors weren't given this much respect last season as they are this year.

Klay and Steph are next-level and their defense is still dominant.

Doris Burke, Jalen Rose, and Avery Johnson on ESPN threw the Rockets some love.

    And we'll always have JVG.

This ranking means nothing if can't get out of first round. Ranking is only for fanboys that want to brag to other fans about it

Kobe is getting killed everywhere. Even maybe too much. ESPN lives in a black/white world

Bima tweeted If I told you HOU destroyed a team led by 2 Finals MVPs (neither outside his prime), would you be impressed? Rockets did that w/o 2 starters.

    Morey tweeted GOS w/o D.Lee&we R @home so W won't matter

Translated to 'Golden State is without David Lee and we are at home so the win won't matter.

    1) Obviously IF they get the win.
    2) Daryl is saying the media and talking heads will somehow discredit the win or won't be impressed because Golden State is without David Lee and the Rockets are at home.

He's saying that if they beat GS, people will say W doesn't matter for those reasons

I don't mind if Rockets are under the radar throughout the season. Especially since we live and die by the 3pt shots. We're playing good BBall, but our bench is weak. We all know Harden will have to carry us but...

How much stock do you really put in with Jason Terry?
How much stock do you really put in with D-Mo?
Is Canaan going to step up and solidify the #2 PG role?
Will Pop be our Ginobli in his first season in the NBA?
    Who's Dwight Howard backup?

Over an 82 game season, especially playing the West, the bench is a huge question mark. But we have a great start, no reason why we don;t ride it as long as we can. :)
