Same with the Kansas City Chiefs....the fans yell "Chiefs" instead of Brave. I think to some extent the Atlanta Braves yell that Brave part loudly too.
This. It's the dumbest sports tradition. It makes sense for international competitions but domestic games is just pointless.

Yep. Every Rockets game, fans cheer during that part and that's never going to stop. Now one thing that used to happen that no longer does is red firework streamers going off during the "rockets' red glare" part. I can understand someone thinking it's disrespectful for the organization itself to make a bunch of noise during the national anthem. But no one's gonna stop Rockets fans from being vocal.
That's the best freaking part of the anthem! I can live with them playing the anthem at every. single. sporting event, even if I find it annoying that I'm expected to drop whatever I'm doing and worship a flag for three minutes because... sports? It's when the team parades soldiers on to the court/field for extra, additional nationalistic worship in the form of a cheap pop that really grinds my gears. Unless you stand up and cheer like this army reserve intelligence officer saved your daughter's life and changed your flat tire on the way to the game, people look at you like you're Benedict ****ing Arnold. How is this of any benefit to anyone? I find it really inappropriate and I wish they'd stop.
Referring to hands behind their backs instead of on their hearts. Meh. Old guy whining about old guy things.
unless we're playing the raptors, i don't even know why we do national anthems playing against national teams. we should do state songs, texas our texas. yeahhhh
??? It's not a freedom issue. People are free to do what they want. That doesn't mean all things should be acceptable from a cultural stand-point. You're free to walk around insulting everybody you come into contact with. But you SHOULDN'T do it because it's not nice.
What a bunch of sanctimonious uber-nationalist neo-patriotism. So what if you yell the "Rockets" part during the anthem. The concept of America isn't being offended when you do that because it isn't a human being. Do you think the players and coaches even care during the anthem? When you hear the same thing 82 times a year it tends to become ubiquitous and therefore loses its meaning.
Don't really understand the point of playing the national anthem during a national sporting event... I get it if it's between two international teams. And if anything, it seems kinda witty to me to use words in the anthem to prop your team up. Especially when both teams have equal ties to the anthem. I'm sure we'll be seeing this in the D&D soon...

Our team is proud of the name of the organization that they represent. Old man can suck it. I want everyone, owners gm's and world tongo bonkers when the words Rockets Red Glare is sung. ROCKETS PRIDE FOREVER BABY!
