    No, their perception won't change.

First 4 teams stink(Lakers, Jazz, Celtics, Sixers)
    Spurs rested their guys
    Warriors without David Lee

Blah blah blah, always something. But again, it doesn't matter. Just keep winning. (And while a long way off, do something in the playoffs.)

Nah they're without Lee is gonna be the saying around the league, the game that validate us as a top seed in the West keeps getting pushing back.

    Not All Media Is Bad

I think most people are just reacting to that comedy show NBA on TNT. I'm not a conspiracy theorist about the media having it out for our team. But those guys on TNT seem to be trying really hard not to compliment the Rockets for anything they do. It is natural that fans tune into their show hoping for some props in the aftermath of a big game. And those guys just won't give it to the Rockets for some mysterious reason. But you are right about most of the other media outlets.

The level of competition hasn't been very high so far. But on the other hand:

    1) The Rockets have played 6 games in the first 10 nights of the season. No other NBA team has played 6 games so far.

    2) They've played 4 road games already, including 2 of them on the 2nd night of a B2B.

    3) Those B2B road games were in Utah and Miami. Say what you will about the teams themselves, but those are not easy arenas to win in, especially when those legs are tired.

    4) They've been short-handed in every game other than the ones at the Lakers and Jazz.

Waiting for media affirmation of the Rockets is fruitless. There's always something the media can say.

If we win tomorrow - Warriors without David Lee. Rockets got lucky because Warriors did insert-something uncharacteristically which won't happen in the future
If we keep winning - Rockets are like the Pacers, peak early but gonna suck late.
If we win all the way til the end of the season - Rockets are gonna fail in the playoffs lol Harden sucks in the playoffs
If we win the first round - Rockets gimmicky offense not gonna work against true contender we face in 2nd round
If we get to the finals - Remember when Harden choked under pressure the last time he was in the finals?

The whole point of being a big fan though is having your team respected. It's not like we are all going to get rings if they win.

But we will get the ability to say that our team was the best. So I get it. Fans in essence just want respect.

It's exciting but I think we shouldn't expect the media or anyone to be really impressed.

Look at the end of the day what we really have a 6 game winning streak to start the season. Teams that start hot don't always finish even in the top 4 in seeding or go to the finals. It's a long season.

It's a beautiful start and very exciting but it's not one game that will start to impress people. It's when we become the test of how good other teams are. And that will happen over time.

I will say this - that Memphis game is looming larger and larger.

My wonderful exchange with a Mavericks poster on ESPN (as if I would have expected anything different):

    MORON:
it doesn't matter he stopped playing for 2 years dude everybody even said if Jordan plays those two years he has 8 titles instead of 6

    ME:
BTW, Mr. Jordan averaged 31 points per game in that series and 31.1 PPG in the playoffs that year. That's more than he averaged in 1991, 1996, and 1997- three of their championship years. So, follow me on the logic on this- you're saying that Michael Jordan didn't lead the Bulls to victory b/c he'd been out for 2 years- actually, 1.5- yet, he managed to average MORE points in 1995 than in 3 other championship years. Maybe, just maybe, the difference was not having Horace Grant in 1995 and gaining Dennis Rodman the next year. Maybe, just maybe, the Orlando Magic were just the better team that year in the East. You see, I don't deal in "well, if..." - because anyone could make up anything in that line of thinking. I deal in "he played in 1995, he came up short, it's not the first time he missed the playoffs- you do realize that he did play in the NBA before 1991, right??? So, your narrative has been completely destroyed, and I am glad I was able to help you see the light. You are very welcome.

    MORON:
you're an idiot look at his field goal percentage that year it was only 41 percent that should tell you he wasn't in the proper basketball ball shape and you can't put an asterisk on our title we won our title without our starting small forward Caron Butler and our backup Brendan Haywood who got hurt in game 2 of the finals

    ME:
Mr. Jordan's playoff FG percentage in 1995 was .484, higher than in 4 of the 6 years he won a championship. So, stick that in your pale-blue Dallas Mavericks pipe and smoke it, you ******** ********** ********** *********** ********** imbecile.

No.... the whole point of being a fan is to SUPPORT YOUR TEAM THROUGH THICK AND THIN. At NO POINT is being a fan ever about respect from other fans or national media, EVER. Caring about what others say about your team is a sign of pathetic desperation IMO. Nothing any asshat on BSPN or NBC or Yahoo or wherever should change how you feel about your team if you are a real fan.

I will take it a step farther and say if you are the type of fan that some how is pathetic enough to care what whether other non-fans care or respect you team, that you are stinky bandwagon fan and us Rockets fans have no room on the wagon for those kind of fans. Rockets forever!

I think this is right. But, in the interim I think there are some subplots that can change the narrative a bit. If we keep winning with Harden, Howard and Ariza doing all the heavy lifting, they'll say we're too thin to win in the postseason. If we have a couple of guys emerge as big contributors, that criticism would be blunted.

Probably not because it's not a nationally televised game. Big statements are made on the big stage when everyone is watching including the media. This one isn't even an NBA TV picked game(which is weird).

....remember we still have to win the game - Golden State wants this game just as bad as Houston fans.

Like McHale I don't care what the media thinks about our team i care about what our players are doing to improve, at the end of the day i am just excited we're winning.

    • We're playing much better Defense.
    • James is showing effort and focus on the Defensive end.
    • The additions of Terry, Paps and Ariza have been great so far.
    • Dwight looks better physically.
    • James court awareness IMO has improved, he's seeing the floor much better.
    • Our offense is moving the ball well.
    • We have better 3 Point shooters this year, and we're actually knocking them down.

Young season, but this Saturday is gonna be a fun game and hopefully the Rockets put on a show :)

    Iguadola D versus James
    Pat Bev D versus Curry
    Klay O vs Ariza D
    Dwight agaisnt Bogut

    fun fun stuff

Like cap room, I've never seen media perception score a basket. So IDGAF.

But yes, I think beating ESPN's darling Warriors would probably get the Rockets on the talk shows for a day or two before they go back to covering what Kobe ate for lunch before the game.

Let's be fair here though, Houston's undefeated start is still getting covered a hell of a lot more than Memphis'. So there's that.

The game in Memphis will tell us more. The media wants the cavs n Lakers to do well that they can really care about the other teams. Its night n day how this team looks defensively and turnoverwise from last year. Take it one game at a time n well the media hype will come.
