This movie was boring as ****, fukk! Watching it in 35mm made it that much worse. Skip this movie and go see birdman instead.
LOL truly, your career as a professional movie reviewer is about to blast off, much like the space ship in Interstellar.
This is a forum to generate discussion and I'm just sharing an opinion on a film. I like all of Nolan's film just not this one which I think is pretty boring. Doesn't make me a film snob or a film critic? Don't be a dick just because I don't like the things you like.
So, is Matthew riding a 16,000 foot wave believable in this one? Was he surfing the space ship? I know...none of it's believable. It just seems like maybe they were tapping into a little Kurt Russell "Escape from LA" surfing in that moment. I picture Matthew on top of the ship in his surfing stance riding a huge wave while keeping his balance. Dumb moment or no?
Too much incomplete information here. Interstellar will be released in 6 various formats: 70mm Film IMAX 70mm Film 35mm Film IMAX 4k Digital 2k Digital Houston only has Digital IMAX for Interstellar. It does not have 70mm Film IMAX. Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas are the only nearby places for the latter which is the preferred format to see it on. This will be the last film ever shot this way, and the remaining IMAX Film screens will be dead after this. See it in in film if you can.
As someone who has little knowledge of cinematography, I have no idea what the differences between each type of film are. Does it really make that much of a difference?
Wait... what. Please explain. I didn't hear about this. Also: have the last few big budget IMAX films been using film or digital?
Surface area of the film. When projected on a large screen you can tell a difference. 4K is equivalent to 35mm, no digital format is equivalent to film IMAX.

Summary: Houston's Digital-only/Full-size IMAX theaters offer 90% of the experience which Nolan wants. Do not watch on a LieMAX/fake IMAX screen. Houstonians. Keep quiet and remain calm. The difference between 70mm Film IMAX which our city doesn't have, and Digital IMAX on a full-size IMAX screen isn't too big. However, there is a difference. The Film version of IMAX shows more of the movie with an aspect ratio of 1.43:1; the Digital version of IMAX shows slightly less with a ratio of 1.9:1. I will see the film on both versions. Huge picture showing the aspect ratio difference: Spoiler @mlaitkep, if you don't know about any of this stuff don't worry about it. You only need to worry about the size of the screen and the picture/sound quality. In Houston, there are only two true IMAX screens showing this movie. Edwards Marquee and Santikos Silverado up in Tomball. The problem with the 70mm Film IMAX theaters in San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin are they have no reserved seating. It's really crucial to sit in the right place for IMAX (always center or just off-center, middle to the very top row). Houston's IMAX theaters offer reserved seating so take advantage of it.
The majority of IMAX big-budget movies were 'upconverted' for full-size IMAX screens and LieMax screens. The key is whether the director told the cinematographer to use an IMAX Film camera. The select few Hollywood films partially shot with IMAX cameras: Dark Knight Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Mission Impossible 4 Dark Knight Rises Star Trek into Darkness The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Lucy Interstellar Star Wars VII (to be shot) There very few IMAX screens left in the world that have both an IMAX 70mm Film projector and a full-size screen. These last few theaters will have their old projectors replaced along with other non-film IMAX screens: very soon, all IMAX screens around the world will have 4k Laser Projectors. No more 15/70 film projectors will remain as an option. As a result, because Interstellar was shot using IMAX Film, and IMAX Film screens are dying out, a movie fanatic should see Interstellar on IMAX Film. That being said, the RED Epic and ARRI Alexxa digital cameras are getting very close to the IMAX Film experience (remember how great Skyfall looked?). In 5-7 years, regular digital cameras should be amazing.
The more I read about this movie the more I get the feeling this will be 2014's Prometheus / The Fountain. A very ambitious sci-fi film that will have some very strong opinions both pro and against with a lot of debate. On another note a friend of mine is really hoping that sometime in the movie McConaughy says "the thing I like about traveling faster than the speed of light is everyone keeps getting older while I just stay the same."
I am not a fan of the variable aspect ratio of those types of films but considering you need 4K just to digitize 35mm, IMAX levels of resolution are a long ways off.
Good point. Actually, 35mm is equal to 6K digital. 70mm IMAX is 12k digital. For the average moviegoer, here's another demonstration of the size difference between 70mm Film IMAX and Digital IMAX on a small screen. The Houston IMAX theater at Edwards Marquee has a full size screens but low resolution digital projectors at 2k only. 12k digital projectors are still years away. The next generation IMAX projectors arriving next year are 4k only. That's why it's very important that anyone who can must see this movie in 70mm IMAX Film. This technology was truly ahead of the game by decades.
So will I think this movie sucks if I just see it at a normal theater? Don't really have time to drive to San Antonio.
