Ariza is barely three years older than Parsons. Ariza is obviously at his ceiling but it isn't as if Parsons is some young, raw player with all this untapped potential. The guy is already at his physical peak and at an age where most players are about 90% (or more) of what they will ever be.
Wake me when CP learns how to create his own shot of break down a defender off the dribble. That skill might be necessary to be a "legit star".
Yup...that 3 long year age difference. Parson is 26 and Ariza is 29. What exactly can Parsons do so much better offensively than Ariza? Please don't say create shots for others. He averaged a career high 4 assists last year and is averaging 2 so far this one. He has about a 3 assist per game career average. Ariza is averaging 3 assists per game this year and has already had back to back games of 5 and 7 assists. Parsons may be slightly better in that regard, but he should never be confused as a person to consistently rely on to run your offense. I'd only really give him an edge at handling the ball in the open court when there is a lot of spacing, but his ball handling is not much of an advantage in the half court because it isn't that great and he is still too slow to beat his man off the dribble without his pump fake or a pick and roll opportunity, both things that Ariza has shown he is capable of doing. You're saying he has upside. What do you expect him to get better at exactly? I think what he is right now is about what to expect from him. A very good 3rd option on a team. He is excellent at playing off of the talents of superior players and cleaning up when the opportunity presents itself. ` Allow me to quote an opinion of a Dallas fan I read on another forum that I thought it was fair and spot on. There is an unbiased Dallas fan after watching Parsons drop 29 in their last game against Boston.
I was a little surprised at how many issues Ariza had trying to guard Wade last night. Wade really turned him around and blew past him fairly often. I guess Wade still has a little in the tank. Overall the team defense is so much better with Ariza though. With him and Harden leading the way to a scrambling passing lane attacking defense, and with Howard behind them to clean up the ensuing mistakes, I really like the Rockets' defense this year. As a person who loves great defense, I have not liked watching my Rockets this much in several years (I still have a candle burning for you Chuck Hayes). It will be interesting to see how this defensive style works against a great passing team like the Spurs though. I fear they may carve us up -- here's hoping they don't, and that they still have not found an answer for Harden and Howard.
Parsons > Ariza generically Ariza on Rockets > Parsons on Rockets Ariza is the best 3&D wing in the league. That is exactly what the Rockets need on a team with Harden and Howard. He is such a good fit that I consider him untradeable for anyone that is not a top 10 player in the league and none of those players are on the block.
Exactly...Parsons might give you 16 a night, but he'll give up 30...lol, ok, maybe I'm stretching a bit, but the point is, his horrible defense pretty much negates this offensive output.
Parsons is only 3 years younger bro Parsons will never be a star, his ceiling offensively is where it is now. He might improved his defense, but I don't see him going over 20ppg
Wade gets up for the Rockets. You can tell that by his body language. For some reason we are one of the teams he tries especially hard to look good against. They showed that graphic of players who average the most points ever against us, and he was #3 behind Jordan and West, tied with Kobe who is another guy who goes out of his way to score as many points as possible against us, even if his team loses. So yea Wade was trying as hard he could last night. The same way he tried as hard as he could against us in the last game of the preseason. Watch his level of play go down significantly tonight, since the opponent is not the Rockets. Also, his knees are made of slush. They will be yelling at him today for going 100% against us yesterday. Thankfully, even though he tried his best and made all variety of fadeaway mid-range shots, we still blew them out.

Ariza has just an amazing BBIQ. He plays within himself with a real team-first attitude. No personal agendas. No stat padding. Doesn't care who is getting the shots. Just solid basketball on both ends of the floor. Ariza is a true x-factor, glue guy, utility player. He is just a joy to watch. This dude is just a perfect fit for the Rockets. Whatever happens with Parsons and his career, Ariza is just a better Houston Rockets.
When people say Ariza is a good defender it doesn't imply one on one. He isn't a very gifted athlete (compared to other NBA players). He is always active and seems to talk to his teammates on defense. Really is great to see the improved team defense. I thought Courtney Lee was the last guy that did it well for the Rockets. That Chuck Hayes team was really great on defense, Battier and Artest, are you kidding me. So proud of the defense they are playing so far. I can't wait for the Golden State game, should be interesting. Granted, any one game can go any direction based on who's hot.
If the Rockets were actually given the choice of Bosh/Parsons vs. Ariza, they would have taken Bosh and Parsons. It was Bosh's decision to come or not. Once he said no, it came down to Ariza, Parson, or Ariza and Parsons.
