All I can do is just shake my head. I try to be positive, I dont want to b**** and moan, I don't want to complain, but damn I'd like to be a fan of a good football team again.

Good luck with that - Uncle Bob makes money whether you show up for the games or not. NRG is sold out with a waiting list. Just not going to happen.

But the Texans aren't the first (and they won't be the last) Houston franchise that is utterly clueless on how to build a winning organization. It's the nature of the beast for Houston.

They were notified you had a contagious virus? what precautions did you take to isolate the virus to your body? can't believe i just heard a healthcare professional say "DUR, WELL, IF I WAS FEELING SICK AND STILL DID MY JOB oN DAY 1 THEN CLOWNEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO HIS IF HE'S LISTED AS "SICK" ON DAY 4"

Clowney will end up playing in over 100 games for the Texans.

Truthfully... I didn't think Clowney should have came back until after the bye week anyway so we'll see what he does than.

But if the Texans wanted to draft a defensive player with their 1st pick _ they probably should have traded back. Mosley has looked good so far this year and there was a poster who was real big on Aaron Donald before the draft and he is looking like a young J.J. Watt.

At his current pace, I think he would have to play in the league for about 45 years for that to happen.

Why it has taken me fifty years to come to that conclusion, I don't know. Hope is a powerful thing. I still want to believe we are just one or two players or coaches away from turning the corner, but the corner appears to be moving faster than the owner or gm can think.

If he stays healthy It'll be around 40 games (whatever is left this year plus 2 more seasons). I believe with his rookie contract he can hold out after 3 seasons and try to force the Texans hand. It'll be that third year when he actually shows up of course to be able to demand a new contract. He'll ask for Watt type money which the Texans can't afford so the Texans will trade him to rid themselves of the diva for some late rounds picks that they'll use on 3rd string quarterback or two.

“This is very simple. We play a kid’s game and get a king’s ransom,” said Sapp, an NFL Network analyst. “People expect when you tell the world you’re going to be the number one pick and come in to be all that you can be. We expect to see you on Sunday afternoon, young man. Football is a great game in America and we all gather around to see the best of the best come out each Sunday for 60 minutes. You’re disappointing us and you’re wearing out your coaches and everybody down in Houston.

“Do you not see Justin James Watt? Why would you not want to be his sidekick? We’re not even asking you to be the man – we’re asking you to be the man next to the man. So at least show up for the Texans and play on Sunday, please. It’s a real big deal.”

I like Warren Sapp a little more now. This is awesome advice.

    Locker material.

I'm not ready to give up on Clowney yet. He had knee surgery and then the flu. Those are legitimate issues.

The guy has talent -- he looked great in some preseason matchups -- he'll get healthy and play well.

Knee surgery encompasses a wide range of procedures. He had a minimally invasive outpatient procedure and should have been running in 2 weeks and ready to play in 4.

Also, it was never confirmed he actually had the flu. Flu, Flu Symptoms, stomach virus were all thrown out there but to my knowledge the affliction was never announced.

Maybe he was really really really sick and it's just the perfect storm. It looks really bad right now but the kid still has a chance to play in half of the games this year and we are spinning our wheels with this issue before then. If he goes on a tear then all is well. If he keeps missing games for random reasons then keep on with it.

It's worth noting is that the national media/fans are criticizing Clowney in addition to the Texan fans.

I've heard Sapp is a total jerk in real life, but I can appreciate his comments here. Hopefully they get through.

He's still a jerk. I would guess he doesn't even know what's going on with the situation to make those statements in the first place. All he sees is number one pick isn't playing and he thinks he should play regardless of injury or illness. Is he a doctor? I'm sure no one wants to be out there more than Clowney. What kind of football player doesn't want to be on the field and prove his worth?

Why? Do you think all football players are equally motivated? You don't think some players have more desire to compete than others? JJ Watt doesn't want to be out there any more than any other player?

One who's drive is primarily to make money? There are people like that in every other profession. Some doctors or lawyers or engineers or politicians are driven by the desire to help people or create things or whatever else. Others - who are just as good - are driven by the desire to make money. Why wouldn't there be people like that in football?

Not saying that Clowney is that guy, but the idea that he's as motivated as a JJ Watt, for example, is pure conjecture.

I will wait until the end of the season before I evaluate him.

But I will say this....I'm done defending him.

I think you're giving Clowney more credit than he deserves. There are rumblings all over that there is something going on here outside of just a simple, "Ouch, I cant play".

For the Pittsburgh game, Clowney says that he wanted to play but it was up to the coach...and Bill OBrien said the opposite. Clearly, Clowney is not on the same page here, very similar to how things were with Steve Spurrier in college.

I dont think that what we are seeing is just coincidence...I think it's a character issue with Clowney. Of course, he's still young, so immaturity can play a big role here. Hopefully, he notices the criticism and steps up to the plate to shut everyone up.
