They've got a 1, maybe 2 year window. As Dirk goes, so they go. And Dirk really doesn't have more than 2 good years in him. The Harden-Howard window is at least 3 years if not 4- and things can change quick. We could have a **** year, get a good free agent this time, and we're back on top.
Their window may be a bit larger when you consider that Chandler's salary comes off the books next year. If he signs for less than his current $15 million salary, with some maneuvering an the potential cap increases in effect, Dallas could be poised to add ANOTHER high-profile free agent to the team. But since Cuban cares so much about chemistry, they'll probably use that extra money to re-sign Monta to a higher cap figure. If they go with that strategy, their window for contention is not big at all considering Dirk's age. Not to mention, they are entirely dependent on Tyson's health to have any chance of being a non-****ty defense and having a legitimate chance at contention. He already went to the locker room for his back and we're only 12 minutes into the season.

first half of the first game of the season: Chandler sucks! We Knee Jerkin for real it is fun to see him struggle though.

Well, that was a quiet first half or Chandler. Be interesting to see if they stick with the game plan that's winning for them, or if they go out of their way to get him more touches.
When I had posted that, he was only 1-3, not 1-5. He has moved the ball, slashed, and played pretty good off-ball defense, causing multiple turnovers. At the same time, we are seeing the same issues with on-ball defense (slow laterally) and him putting up some ill-advised shots.
