It just seemed like such an odd thing for him to do. It almost seemed.. mean somehow. Watt may be a monster, but he has never struck me as actually *mean*. Was the kid taking some selfies and posting them all that bad? I have not read the whole thread, nor have I read every comment everyone has made about this, including Watt himself, so please forgive me if this has already been answered, but: What if it was Watt feeling maybe a little bit disrespected by the kid? I mean, here the kid is, his first start coming up, and he is about to be chased around all day by the most fearsome defensive lineman in the league.. and instead of quaking in his boots, or quietly murmuring in terror about the Watt-ocalypse heading his way, he just took some selfies and posted them, and whatever else, like it was no big deal. Maybe Watt felt angered somewhat by the kid's lack of a proper amount of trepidation? Maybe JJ expects people to react the same way people react when Sho-Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem makes an entrance? I don't know.. just seemed kind of unnecessary, and frankly makes him look a bit bad, on balance.
IMO the deal is that the kid found out he was going to get his first ever start against a team with the best defensive player in the league and his first thought was that he had to go get his hair cut and post a bunch of selfies on social media about it. Now I'm sure the kid put out effort getting prepared for the game, but Watt was just putting the kid in his place and Watt has more than earned the right to do so. No matter what the case, you know they used the selfie nonsense as added motivation. Players find additional motivation in all sorts of ways and he shouldn't have been doing that before his first game. Here's another example.

.@getnickwright @PatDStat IDK. A Pittsburgh rookie center came out for intros with his helmet off and my new life goal was to make him cry.
— Seth Payne (@PayneNFL) October 27, 2014

I think what Watt did was completely unnecessary. Doesn't really matter either way, but I don't get why Watt is even remotely thinking about or caring about Mett taking a selfie. The fact that he actually thought of a celebration dance involving that or talking about it in the post game was kind of silly...he wanted Mett to not take a selfie and focus on the game...then let's do the same in return and not worry about how another player spends their free time, and focus on winning games.
Randy, you're not a true reporter!!

Just got through watching #texans game again. Watt's mocking Mettenberger wasnt needed. Just make your play & let that do the talking.
— Randy McIlvoy (@RandyMcIlvoy) October 27, 2014

Hazing of rookies is a time honored tradition. I have no clue why people are making a big deal out of this, it's as contrived and ****ing stupid as the Mark Appel pitching at MMP thing.
Here's my take. This team was 2-14 last season. They were coming off of 4 losses in 5 games. Handle your biz, blow them out and head back to Houston. I didn't appreciate a dance Swearinger did in the game so the same can be said about what Watt did. Actually, I must have missed it bc this was news to me last night.
Wouldn't that be evidence that he knows what he's talking about? The defense followed Barwin's idea with the jackets and it ended poorly....
If Watt was really concerned about Mett, he could have done so privately. But, for some reason, Watt got really flustered with that selfie and I have no idea why. Really makes no sense at all.
He was just busting the balls of a rookie QB who gave them locker room materiel before his first start. Like Buck said,
You know how it goes _ "Any Given Sunday" anything can happen. Especially after Indy let Pittsburgh hang 50 on them... Do I think we're going to make the playoffs _ h377 no I don't... But there is reason to hope and hopefully Indy can help the Texans out.
You know what's locker room material? Coming off 3 straight loses. What you're describing sounds more like water boy, needle dick garbage.
Everybody needs to lay off Watt, he is a good dude with a good heart and does a ton for the community and the face of the city. I dont care if he kneed Tom Brady in the nuts and called him a mamas boy, ya stand behind this guy. What you dont know is there may be more to this story that is not being told, he had his reasons now get over it.
I can see if Watt was checking one of his rookie teammates but charging up a rookie from another team is kinda irrelevant imo. Let the veterans from the Titans check their young rookie quarterback. Now what if Mett comes to town and leads his team to a victory. Lol the media could spin Watt's outburst in so many ways. Worry about your own team Mega
Holy fack you guys are perfect for the No Fun League!!! What a bunch of dumbarses looking for class from a modern day barbarian sport. Y'all sound just as stupid as Roger Goodell. This isn't golf at St. Andrews. I didn't realize there was so many fake Texan fans posting here. Who needs enemies with fans like these...
I don't doubt that someone like you would think that. I still hold out hope that one day you'll post something of value in a football forum, but it's not looking likely.
It really is pathetic isn't it? The Texans fanbase has to be one of the worst and least intelligent in the NFL.
J.J. has created a brand for himself off the field so when he does something like this there will be some complaints. I love his sack celebrations... Especially the "surfer" celebration. And as long as players aren't celebrating like that while they are losing (which J.J. has done before) I don't have a problem with it. IMO, J.J. may have felt Zach wasn't taking the Texans defense seriously by his activities before the game and J.J. took that as an insult and made him pay... And I bet that rookie doesn't do it again.
