D League rights for the young guys and with Earl Clarke, Feigan said he was hearing they want to have a look at him this weekend. I assume they work him out and practice today and if he looks like a world beater they might have to cut someone like Garcia or Dorsey, but Id have to think Clarke is still a long shot unless Morey makes a small trade to clear roster spots. There was no risk in picking him up off of waivers. They are looking everywhere for opportunity.
Cutting Capela? If this wasn't Cybersex I would call him out. I can't even see the Rox trading him ... so much potential and so young
The Rockets didn't even cut Royce White when they needed roster spots his rookie year badly and he refused to show up to camp to practice. They did however end up trading him as we all know. Capela isn't going anywhere this year except Rio Grande Valley.
We need to cut Capela if we want to keep Adrien and Garcia. We are in win now mode. We need guys who can help now rather than later. Look at how long it's taking DMo.
I thought a first rouner was guaranteed a roster spot for three years. You could cut, or D League, but they still used a roster spot. Just wrong, or no longer true?
Cut Capella, a 1st round pick? Cybersex is just doing what he does best - trolling the guys desperate for "insider" news.
When is the last time a 1st round pick got cut before the start of the season? Ridiculous, and I'm a Cyberx believer.

For the Rockets to cut Capella, they'd have to both be unable to trade him, which is absurd because at the very least the Sixers would certainly offer a 2nd rounder for him, and they'd have to have a 12th man they like so much they can't afford an extra roster spot for that guy. Cyberx seems to be a guy with sources, but that source was probably drunk when he gave that tidbit.
I said it has been discussed guys. Don't kill me for giving some news. Don't think it happens personally, but some have discussed it as a possibility
He is not guaranteed a roster spot and won't cost a team a roster spot if cut. But he is guaranteed his salary for 2 seasons so cutting him would result in the Rockets carrying a dead salary on their cap figures for both this year and, more important, next year-- which cannot even be erased by trading him. As such, I don't see them cutting Capela. They ought to have other options. They can trade him right now-- perhaps for not much or even nothing of value in return just do they don't have a dead salary issue when they are pursuing a free agent in the summer. A rebuilding team should want to take a look at him as a project at a rather low scaled salary. Alternatively, they can cut a guy like Garcia instead with only 1 season guaranteed salary. Even if they want to keep Garcia, they can cut Garcia now, have him threaten to retire if picked up off waivers and sign him back later in the season after they make other deals to clear a roster spot. I think that while you can't re-sign a guy you traded this season, you can sign a guy that you cut as long as he is a free agent. This would buy the team a little time to work out trading Capela from a little less desperate situation.
Understandable and appreciated but can you clarify context a little more? Like for instance did the coaches go to mgmt for approval to do something like that and they laughed their asses off? Seeing as though McHale is in a contract year I could see him asking to move a young guy to keep someone like Adrien but we all know he has no power. That's logically the only way I could see this being brought up, but if you could provide context it will help validate where you are coming from with your sources.
Wait, what. Beverley, Canaan, Johnson Harden, Terry, Daniels Ariza, Papanikolaou Jones, Motiejunas, Capela Howard, Black Smith, Adrian, Dorsey, Garcia can fight for the last 2 roster spots? Where in the hell is the need to cut or trade Capela, Motiejunas?
So what will those 2 bring so badly on the team NOW for that championship, that Morey will mortgage the future by jeopardizing the Great Potential of Capela, a 7 footer with mad athleticism. Remember the guy was on high demand on draft night. The Rockets refused to trade, and now all of a the sudden, if need be to unload his contract, they can't trade him for nothing and instead would be forced to cut? can't believe it for a second, surprised Cyberx just passed it along, because that's just not credible.
my best friend has a cousin who knows an intern at the rockets who overheard his boss talk about how he heard daryl morey talk to alexander about the possibility of exploring a trade for a point guard. Spoiler soon
