Good. It's ridiculous that you could vote without having to prove you are who you say you are.

Is it not easy to get to the DMV and pick up an ID?

I find it interesting that you think so little of African-Americans that you think picking up an ID is outside of their capability.

I didn't mention African Americans at all- i find it interesting that it's the lens that you chose and that's who you assume this law is aimed at.....looks like someone is missing a fig leaf. ;)

I know you didn't specifically mention them. But we all know who people are talking about. African-Americans and Hispanics, mostly.

We do all know that these laws are intended to make lives more difficult for blacks & hispanics, I applaud your candor in admitting that's their intent.

Wow, you have a REALLY low opinion of blacks and hispanics if you think a 6 dollar ID is going to "make their lives more difficult". You can't even pick your kids up from public schools without an ID, this won't affect anyone that matters. Sure some redneck who lives out in the sticks who doesn't have an ID might not be able to vote (as if they were going to to begin with), but I don't think we should be worried about people like that.

And I'm saying that doesn't make any sense. First off, picking up an ID is not difficult, and it's not any more difficult for a minority than it is for a white person.

I think it's pretty offensive that people are acting like minorities are not capable of getting an ID.

If we're being real, this is who is potentially affected by this ID law.....well that and those who aren't supposed to be voting in the first place. I don't see why anyone would worry about either of those two demographics.

Imposing UNECESSARY barriers to voting is the real issue here. Stop trying to turn this into a debate about what "libs think of minorities" it's a deflection and is completely beside the point.

Super difficult? No. A pain? Yes, enough to make voting not quite worthwhile for people who don't already have ID. Those people are disproportionately poor and minorities (who incidentally are also more likely to live somewhere far away from a DMV or to not have a car). The point isn't that people aren't capable of getting ID, just that adding an additional layer of hassle to the process will reduce the number of people in the affected demographics for whom voting will be worthwhile.

And that's the entire point of the laws—to reduce the number of poor people and minorities who will vote. Any pretense about "voter fraud" is just a transparent ruse to grasp at plausible deniability. I'm thankful that the courts in general seem to finally be catching on.

It is such a shame that the only thing the GOTP will act on is solution to a problem that doesn't exist. It's a bigger shame that they have their shills frothing at the mouth over this nonsense.

There is no need speaking with Bobby about this at all. Bobby doesn't believe that poor people should be represented in government. Bobby has overtly stated this. Bobby is a POS.

It's perhaps unnecessary in your opinion, but I don't share that opinion. Why shouldn't you have to show ID to vote when it's seen as necessary for so many less important things like buying a gun, cigarettes, booze, or picking up your kids from school? You act like having an ID is some kind of ridiculous hurdle when it's basically a requirement for life for everyone not WAY out in the sticks making out with their sisters.

We should be taking steps to encourage voter participation not restrict it.

It's a right as an American citizen to vote. You don't have a right to cigs, booze or guns. If you require someone to pay in order to vote its a poll tax.

We should be taking steps to ensure that the right people are voting....just like we take steps to ensure the right people are buying guns, smoking, drinking, driving and so on.

Yeah, that's why we have voter registration. Facts prove that voter fraud is not a real problem. The potential loss of voter participation clearly outweighs any benefit that voter ID laws bring. Again, these are facts.

How about we only let only white land owning men vote?

By the way... I disagree with Bobbythegreat. Everybody should have the right to vote... not just the "right people". Everybody should have a say.

However, I think voter ID laws are a good thing. If you are a responsible citizen who is willing to head to the polls to vote, then you can be responsible enough to obtain identification to ensure that you are the one voting in your name, and not somebody else.

It's not like it's some difficult task to get an ID card.
