I heard that Sumlin was calling out the team saying that it seemed like they took a job somewhere else the week before the game and that they were mentally checked out and just going through the motions and he was going on about how unacceptable that was.
Hey, it wasn't that bad. It could have been 77-0 (OU 2003). What is it with A&M? What other big schools get blown out/shut out like that? Humiliating.
using Alabama as the measuring stick: Sumlin's year 1: Aggies win in Tuscaloosa Sumlin's year 2: Aggies lose barely at home Sumlin's year 3: Aggies lose 59-0. agreed, nobody wants to see 2-3 years with no improvement, that's when you have problems
Now I understand, you're a troll & you don't understand football. I'll make this as easy as I can... right now TAMU has young team. Young team in SEC = tough time. Older team in SEC = should win. These young guys will be older... You understand yet? Or you need to be babied even more? Also - the very first year Sumlin was there... they improved. The very first year. The 1st year... 1st, freaking year... My GF used to teach 2nd grade, maybe she can help you understand.
The young guys have gotten older each of the last two years, and you've gotten worse each year. Sumlin's first recruiting class are juniors now. You said you don't want to go 2-3 years without improvement. You're in your second year of decline. Keep throwing insults though.
We expect improvement next year. We never thought we'd be good this year, that's not how college football works unless you're incredibly elite, I've only seen Alabama and USC at that level that past 10 years. Sumlin's first class are sophomores. He came in after a losing season and inherited whoever Sherman signed and brought over any guys he could. It's like Stong at UT, he doesn't have his guys there yet. Sumlin improved the team the very first year. I'm out. You're a troll we get it, you're not very informed when it comes to sports, we get it.
You did think being favored over Ole Miss sounded right, and that Alabama was a very winnable game. So the team has clearly underperformed your own expectations.
I'm an Aggies fan, but I don't like the "we are young excuse." Every year the big schools like A&M, UT, Oklahoma, and many other schools in the SEC, and the Big 12 reload their rosters with new talent. The Aggies have always gotten good talent compared to the average Div 1A school. No school has a top ten team every year. Some years are going to be better than others, that's to be expected. What concerns me about this loss, is that no Top football program should be beaten like the Aggies were on Saturday. It's one thing to lose, but to be just completely dominated is unacceptable. I concede that Sumlin has yet to see his own recruits become upperclassmen. But, I am disappointed that we haven't seen any improvement on defense since Sumlin has been at A&M. I don't like to hear Longhorn fans use the "we are young" excuse. And I don't like to hear it from Aggies either. The Aggies have more talent on that team than what they showed against Bama.
When a team consistently is relying upon freshmen on defense, it is going to be a problem. Clearly, Sumlin needs to go get a defensive coaching staff that can coach them up.
The "we are young" excuse is silly because it assumes that other top tier teams like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc. don't have the exact same issue at many places as well. It's similar to the whole "incoming recruits" thing. You obviously have to recruit well, but developing the players is much more important. Everybody who's relevant in the SEC brings in Top 10 classes every year, which is more than enough to compete. You have to be able to develop the players throughout their time there, as well as be able to get production out of the young guys early. If you can't, it just leads to more "we're a young team" excuses. Sumlin's a good coach, but he's not great, at least until he gets some results.
No kidding. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - some people just love to crap on A&M's program, including: People whose beloved football programs are currently crap UT prospective / current students and alum People who just like to spew their unnecessary opinions. That second group is somewhat understandable. But even then, we're not even in the same conference as them - they should focus on their own football program / conference. We got embarassed by Alabama. We're definitely out of the playoff picture. Oh well. Address the issues sooner than later, and move on to the next game. No need for this unnecessary back-and-forth. I'm willing to bet that, if UT wins big or gets blown out, the "UT thread" still be as quiet as it is now. A&M wins big or gets blown out? Most popular thread on CF for about 2 hours.
These past few weeks, again, its not the losing, its just the way its happening. Four weeks of not being able to get our game script running at all is not a good sign right now. Glad we have the bye. At this point I'm hoping for 3-1 the rest of the way, which might be a stretch. I also need to see them go into Auburn and do some damage. Nothing is working right now and I don't know what they can do to fix it. We are in a dangerous position right now in terms of recruiting battles, and I feel like the rest of the year is still pretty important. Also big decisions to make in regards to the QB situation. And yeah I don't know whats up with the vitriol. Maybe we are overly sensitive or something. Or everyone really didn't like Johnny. Who knows.
Lost to 3 top 5 teams, gonna play another top 5 team. Still love SEC football. The Big 12 just didn't cut it. Props to UT for scheduling strong out of conference programs going forward. Baylor better follow suit.
