I believe Clowney will come back and flash his amazing jaw dropping talent eventually. Like I said earlier he'll probably go off for 20 sacks in his year 4 contract year.

Given what has been said about him at SC, and what I've seen so far, he has a long way to go to earn a 2nd contract with the Texans. There is no way I'm giving that guy guaranteed money.

Players are rarely 100% after the season starts. Typically all say they fight they fight health issues throughout the season. Some players have more severe health issues than others and still continue to play. What does the doctor say? Is he healthy enough to play without risking a set back to the injury or damaging himself further? If the answer is yes then he should play regardless if he is only 70 or 80 percent.

Where would the 5-1 Cowboys be this season if Tony Romo or Rolondo McLain both said they would not play until they are 100% healthy? I'm not sure when was the last time either of those two participated in Wednesday practice because neither has been 100% all season long. Romo is nursing a serious back issue and Rolondo McLain has had a pulled groin all season (he missed the 4th quarter of Houston game because he re-aggrivated it). The Cowboys are probably 1-5 this season with out those two.

If you are only willing to play in the NFL when you are 100% you will very likely not play very much.

The answer is yes...he should play on Monday. The chances of reinjuring the meniscus won't be any higher than normal.

Not sure its that as much as if he's not 100%, he's likely not going to be any more effective than a healthy Mercilus.

Any time you are playing before you are finished rehabbing an injury you risk additional injury....and not necessarily even the same injury. If you are on the field and are unable to do the things you are used to doing, bad things happen. If he's not even close to 100% then he shouldn't play....they shouldn't let him. It's not worth the risk because they need him for the long haul and the Steelers are awful.

There's not much (if at all) of a re-injury risk on a meniscusectomy.

But, he could still have soreness and some scar tissue that's limiting his mobility.

I get that, but like I pointed out, when you are out there on the field and unable to do the things you are used to doing, it's a good way to get hurt. The re-injury risk might be minor, but there is still a risk of another injury when you are out there playing at a low level. A football field is a dangerous place even for elite athletes at the top of their game, it's much worse when they aren't at the top of their game.

@JaysonBraddock: Much to his surprise, Clowney is traveling with the Texans today to Pittsburgh. Team holding out hope that they can pressure him to play.

I don't think so. He's been pretty accurate with his reports so far. But, I continue to believe that it's all a smokescreen aimed at the Steelers. Clowney can dispel any and all questions about his will and desire once he gets back on the field. And with JJ Watt on this team, he'll REALLY have something to prove to everyone. I'm reserving judgement until I see what he does on the field. All of this handwringing over twitter reports is pointless.

    I know what I know....

That's kind of like saying "Remember when the Ravens picked Cedric Woodard in the 6th round in 2000 when Tom Brady was still on the board? I do....

It basically means nothing because literally every team in the NFL passed on him more than once....including the team that eventually picked him. No one thought he'd be a good enough game manager to win the starting job.

He got a scoop last week, but for the most part the guy is a bootleg Chris Broussard. Sometimes what he says is accurate, but when he starts up with the "sources" nonsense it's best to just ignore it.

I was thinking the same thing at first but why would that effect on how the Steelers prepare...??? There's practically no regular season tape on Clowney for the Steelers to go buy anyway. He's an unknown at this point.

If that is true then O'Brien is probably going through all of this just to try to fool the Steelers for nothing.

Oh, I don't doubt there's some grumbling going on behind the scenes about Clowney's "attitude" especially when you have a guy like JJ who is the gold standard for defensive players giving it his all on every play. I'm sure that with their season currently circling the drain, the coaching staff is most anxious to have him out there because a defense with both Clowney & JJ wrecking havoc can go a long way to cover for the tricycle offense they have to run under Fitzpatrick.

no, i wasnt pounding the table for brady... i was for wilson though.

anywho, using your metrics (qb rating, comp %, YPA) wilson is probably a top 3 QB.

also, you cant worry about what other teams are doing. all of those teams passing on wilson doesnt make it right for Houston. especially when we had Oakland's 3rd string qb as our starter!!!

Congratulations? Literally no team in the NFL was "pounding the table" for Wilson....including Seattle, or he'd have been drafted before he was.
