    @AtW

Serbian soldiers in Bosnian war shot me when i was 6 years old, my grandma was sniped down, my grandfather was executed, most of my family from my moms side was executed in Srebrenica massacre. Do i hate all Serbian people? Of course not, in fact one of my closest friends is Serbian, did Orthodox Church tell them to do that? Of course not, their political leaders did. Few black individuals broke into my van n stole all of my tools, are my black friends somehow connected to them? No, they're not. Hispanic guy held me at gunpoint in Southwest Houston n took my wallet, my best friend is Mexican, is he somehow connected to that idiot? No, he is not, did a Catholic church told him to that ? No it didn't. I like rock, rap n country music, i'm a very good citizen who has never been arrested nor did i break any laws in this country except for few traffic violations, I love this country n city of Houston very much. Never thought about suicide nor blowing myself up, im very against wars in people dying regardless of their skin color, religion or nationality. Don't try to tell me with ur polls n ignorant way of thinking that I'm somehow connected to those idiots of Isis, Al qaeda etc. just because I'm Muslim, because I am not.

    Have a good day

JHarden713, thank you for your perspective, and sorry that these terrible things happened to you.

I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding here.

    1) I don't think all evil in the world is caused by Islam, obviously not. There are criminals of all kinds, there are the (nominally) Catholic people involved in the Mexican drug wars and in the Italian mafia, and so on and so on. I also realize that the Serbians who committed the horrible war crimes in Srebrenica were Christians or Atheists and the victims were Muslims.
    2) That said, I think that in your examples, the horrible acts were not religiously motivated. That doesn't make them any better, but I think neither the Serb who shot you nor the Mexican who robbed you claimed to be motivated to do what he does by Jesus Christ. The ISIS guys claim to act in the name of Islam/Allah, in order to enforce Sharia laws and a Muslim caliphate.
    3) I am also not saying that every Muslim is connected to ISIS. It seems that, for instance, you and dmc89 are, for the most part, just as different from ISIS as I am, and just as opposed to them, if not more.
    4) What I am saying, though, is that ISIS is not an isolated phenomenon that has nothing to do with Islam. They act in the name of Islam and are motivated by their interpretation of Islam. And while you are opposed to them and think of them as idiots, many Muslims agree with their goals. There are elements of a shared ideology - connected tissue.
    5) I understand that it is unfortunate that ISIS and hundreds of millions of Muslims who think that anyone leaving Islam should be murdered make all those Muslims look bad who do not think that way. That is on those who think and act that way, though - not on me.

The Jewish Defense League (JDL) is a Jewish far-right religious-political militant organization whose stated goal is to "protect Jews from antisemitism by whatever means necessary".[1] While the group asserts that it "unequivocally condemns terrorism" and states that it has a "strict no-tolerance policy against terrorism and other felonious acts",[2] it was classified as "a right-wing terrorist group" by the FBI in 2001.[3][4] According to the FBI, the JDL has been involved in plotting and executing acts of terrorism within the United States.[3]

Founded by Rabbi Meir Kahane in New York City in 1968, JDL's self-described purpose was to protect Jews from local manifestations of antisemitism.[1][5] Its criticism of the Soviet Union garnered support for the group, transforming it from a "vigilante club" into an organization with stated membership numbering over 15,000 at one point.[6] The group took to bombing Arab and Soviet properties in the United States,[7] and targeting various alleged "enemies of the Jewish people", ranging from Arab-American political activists to neo-Nazis, for assassination.[8] A number of JDL members have been linked to violent, and sometimes deadly, attacks in the United States and in other countries, including the murder of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee regional director Alex Odeh in 1985, the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre in 1994, and a plot to assassinate Congressman Darrell Issa in 2001.[9] The National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism's database of identified terrorist organizations, which is compiled by official contractors and consultants to the United States government and is supported by the Department of Homeland Security, identifies the JDL as a "former terrorist organization".[10] The JDL's website states that it rejects terrorism.[11]

According to the Anti-Defamation League, the JDL consists only of "thugs and hooligans"[12] and the group's founder, Meir Kahane, "preached a radical form of Jewish nationalism which reflected racism, violence and political extremism,"[1] attitudes that were replicated by Irv Rubin, the successor to Kahane.[13] In 2002, the Southern Poverty Law Center added the Jewish Defense League to its list of watched hate groups for the JDL's "long history of bombing, assaulting and threatening its perceived enemies" such as "the Soviet Union, neo-Nazi activists, Palestinian leaders, prominent black Americans and even Jewish moderates" as well as other Jewish radicals, and stated that the JDL "claims to have 13,000 members, but apparently has a few dozen at best."[4]

In 1994, the JDL's sister movements Kach and Kahane Chai were both outlawed in Israel as terrorist organizations posing a threat to state security.[14] They are also banned in the United States and the European Union. "JDL Canada" remains legal,[15] despite sharing the ideology, goals and identical logo of the banned organization.[16] However, the French branch of the JDL, the Ligue de Défense Juive (LDJ), is not illegal in France.[17] Several JDL members and leaders died a violent death, including Kahane himself.[18]

Even now, you can't debate me on the facts and points I have made.

I think people like you only inspire more hate in the world. You are like the Imam's your criticize. Instead of preaching hate for the west, you preach and lay the seed of hate for Islam. Why? You help build the gap of misunderstanding and mistrust between two worlds. Fortunately you have no real power. But others like you do.

So, back to Maher and the polls.

None of the Muslim apologists and leftists has been able to address the intolerance displayed by hundreds of millions of followers of an ideology who want to see people who no longer want to follow their cult murdered.

Why aren't you addressing the intolerance of your people?

Please review what god command Moses to do with the Medianites because of their idolatry. In addition, you can see a number of similar verses in the bible that parallels this....

    Deuteronomy 13:6-11 ESV / 57

“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife you embrace or your friend who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which neither you nor your fathers have known, some of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. But you shall kill him. Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Ben Afleck sounds like he reads scripts for a living but that is Hollywood logic. It is meant to sell movies. Not to address reality.

And how many Christians and Jews believe or even tolerate this?

Right now, none that I know of. But there was also a time when they did use these type of verses to justify their atrocities.

I am not here to defend that. But as you say, fortunately almost all Christians and Jews have overcome believing that these stupid verses from almost 2000 years ago should direct anyone to kill people and so on. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case with a lot of Muslims right now, though.

Which is why the biggest thing holding back mainstream Sunni/Shia Islam is the refusal to return to the texts and 1) retranslate the Quran (and hopefully disregard the Hadiths) and 2) reinterpret the new translations.

Right now, that's a taboo topic amongst most Muslims. Christianity and Judaism's sources are violent, however that's not a problem since the people reading those texts are relatively open-minded so they don't kill, etc. New translations and new interpretations will pave the way for an Islamic enlightenment and renaissance -> religious humanism/organic democracy/post-industrial economy, etc.

Then maybe we need to find out what the Jews and Christians did to get out of this funk and see if they can implement the same thing for the current Islam. IMHO, we are not getting anywhere if we just criticize the religion by itself but would get farther if we focus our attention on the leaders of that religion.

Why does the Real Time audience always have to woo and clap when people are talking? It's childish. You agree with a point someone made, cool. You don't need to celebrate like they hit an opposite field home run.

The whole concept of the show is based on Bill Maher's original series "Political Incorrect".

So, if you expect county club behavior, you're gonna have a bad time.
