I don't like Rubio as much... he doesn't seem to be a great post-passer... and needs 2 ball 2 much 2 be effective....

i'd rather have beverley than rubio. harden needs someone who can play off the ball at PG. rubio is only effective with the ball as a play maker, but even then can get out of control. beverley is a better defender, and better shooter. i don't see rubio as an upgrade anywhere but in jersey sales.

the real upgrade needs to happen on PF. millsap, t.gibson, fareid, j.smith, d.west, t.young, a.johnson, would be my targets this season.

 

David West has two years left on his contract and will want to be traded to a contender.

Morey has always liked Rubio from day 1. IIRC he tried to trade up to draft Rubio back in 2009.

Rubio has not yet lived up to what people thought he could be 5 years ago. I am surprised that Morey still wants to pursue him. At least on the surface he doesn't seem to fit well with Harden. (Nor does Rondo for that matter.)

Rubio is kind of the poor man's Rondo -- healthy poor man, that is. We don't know if Rondo will ever be fully healthy again. Maybe Morey is banking on buying low when Rondo's injury renders his value at a low point.

Rondo and Rubio are better overall talent than Beverley. But are they better fit? This is the kind of things Morey's detractors hold up to say that Morey doesn't care about chemistry.

 

Then you haven't seen him play. He uses athleticism less than any other player in the NBA. Most of his game is angles and brain fodder.

The Rockets would be upgrading a starting spot with a talent atleast on par with Ariza's productivity and skill set with Rondo. Rubio does nothing to excite me.

I'd only pull the deal if all of the current starting five + Johnson, Kostas remain on the team.

The rights to Rondo's expiring contract and the cap space available ENTERING FREE AGENCY could allow the Rockets the ability to land a significant player early in free agency (think back to Lowry and Asik and Lin deals having tie ups that was the difference in negotiations)

I'd rather us land a strong 4. I think we're bleeding more from the 4 position right now than the PG.

 

With all due respect, I consider those two to be so different as players that I can't wrap my head around your statement.

 

Wasn't that more of an asset thing, ie a foreign stash with top 5 pick talent?
