Numerous articles have stated that Lowry himself was interested in a reunion but was asked by the Rockets to wait until the Melo situation got sorted.

Rather than drag it on for weeks he decided to sign with the team that made him their #1 choice.

He could also be top dog with Toronto which is what Ujiri got across to him. Ujiri told him that he could be the guy who gets Toronto to the top and be a legend there or he could be the third wheel somewhere else.

Could you point out some of those numerous articles? Not that I don't believe you that they exist, it just sounds weird that a player would admit he was interested in signing for another team before "settling" for the team they play for.

    lol

I would like to see the article then. I read about everything out about the NBA and don't remember ever Lowery was interested about returning. Most everything was how Toronto had embraced him and was wishing he stay. Very seldom has a player been afforded the total adoration of a city and the team. It was natural that he would stay.

Read the same about him meeting with us and being interested, then getting told to wait for the Melo situation to play out.

We were the first team to meet with him and Morey messed up by thinking Melo would really be interested in leaving NYC.

I read that before but don't see these numerous articles. From everything I read he was just going through the motions and planned on returning. I suspect he was hoping for a max payday and that would be all that swayed him to leave. I understand that he could have made more if he left since Canadian taxes were so much higher. He didn't take the money though but stayed. That is not someone open to leaving if he leaves money on the table.

just know lowry would've signed here if morey had the contract with $12mill what Rubio is turning down now. he wanted to wait until melo came to visit. "you know moery and his 3rd star"

no scapegoats or delusional, but it sounds like you think morey can do no wrong. And are very protective of him, freak had a good point

A similar situation perhaps to Bledsoe. They all want the max. Don't blame em, but hardly anyone is worth that much, certainly not Rubio.

No you or anyone doesn't know that Lowery would have signed here. All signs were he was going through the motions and re sign with Toronto.

Obviously, hindsight being 20/20, I'd have rather DM gone another route than wasting time on Melo and Bosh - but I can't fault him for swinging for the bleachers...
That said, there is still no guarantee that ANY other pursuits would have come to fruition... Lowry was open to the POSSIBILITY of returning to Houston, but regardless of DMs efforts he could have still opted to stay in Toronto and be 'the man'... that is a far cry from Freaks original statement of 'we could have easily signed him...' Personally, I think the fact that Lowry signed quickly and for below market value to stay in Toronto is the most telling point...

sidenote - if we HAD signed Lowry... how many people would be b****in that "We could have had Bosh... he was interested in Houston... Bosh over TJ is a bigger upgrade than Lowry over PBev...." someone is ALWAYS gonna be b****in - regardless of how anything, other than a championship, plays out...

The grantland article I was talking about said it was posted, saw another article before free agency started talking about how he was intrigued by the Rockets, obviously he wouldn't say it himself though.

I would hate it if we would sign any freaking PG for around 12 million when we could've had Lowry back! Morey biggest screw-up was not not getting Bosh or Melo for that matter or resigning Parsons: it's how he dealt with Lowry this off-season. Morey is infatuated with that freaking third star, it's getting annoying. 2 is more than enough!! He got greedy, plain and ****ing simple.

P.S. Bosh would not have pushed us over the top, since our bench would be even more depleted and it's the strength of the bench and people knowing their roles that will determine how far we go.
