I don't understand comments like this. Both those teams are cancer at player development. If you want a team to bring your best out go to the Spurs.

That word "potential" seems to be the key to that contract.

LA and NY have the largest metro populations = more fan votes for the starters

He is worth a lot of that money, yes. However, a two year max would come off the books when the new CBA is created. In addition, if a star comes on market, the max salary would be able to keep salary trade fillers like big papa (if he is not an asset the team covets).

Parsons is a MUCH better player than Ariza - but the fit for the Rockets as a TEAM might be better with Ariza - at the very least it is a wash, adding more defense and less offense.

    HOLD ON

The ONLY reason Morey was going to overpay and offer a Max deal to Parsons is IF we signed Bosh.

    1. If we signed Bosh we would be maxed out and would not be able to make a viable free agent splash for atleast 2 years

    2. We would not be able to afford or sign Ariza or any other small forward.. HOWEVER Lesie Alexander was willing to re-sign Parsons to a max knowingly overpaying him and go vastly over the salary cap.

    3. We had a nasty starting 5 for atleast 2 years in which Parsons contract is up and we could chase someone like Durant

NOTE- we would only pay Parsons Max money if we signed Bosh or Carmello

Reasons why we wouldn't sign Parsons to a max deal without Carmello or Bosh

    1. If we signed Parsons to max then thats the team we have for awhile... which we KNOW wouldn't be championship caliber. We werent willing to settle for future mediocrity

    2. We could sign Ariza for a lower contract and have room/a chance to still eventually land our 3rd superstar

    THINK ABOUT THIS

Swap out Ariza and Parsons.. Parsons was on the Wizards and Ariza is on the Rockets in which we own his rights.

We land Bosh, we would sign Ariza to a 2 year max without question (knowingly overpaying him)

We don't land Bosh, Dallas offers Ariza the max and so we sign Parsons for cheaper so we still have a future oppurtunity in landing our 3rd superstar

Because a Max Ariza with the current group isnt a contender

Much like a Max Parsons with the current group isnt a contender

A Max Ariza with Bosh and the current group IS a contender

A Max Parsons with Bosh and the current group IS a contender

Plainly put, the Rockets never believed Parsons was worth the Max, but if we had a 3rd max superstar- having no other way to upgrade in the future to get an 8-9million a year guy.. it would be wise to max him out and go way over the tax and retain Parsons for title ability

I think just having a better, I mean superior, coach will help Parsons very much. And then there's the fact that he doesn't have to cover for a then lazy teammate on the defensive end. Parsons did really well against Durant in that PlayOff series, if it werent for a few superstar calls who knows. I just think he escaped an overall bad situation. You switch out McFail and things could have been different.

    1) Parsons was nearly as bad last year on defense as Harden was.
    2) His new perimeter teammates in Dallas are all below average defenders
    3) If he did so well guarding Durant 2 years ago, why was Garcia the one that ended up guarding KD the majority of the time in that series?

    True.

Also many games that Parsons would disappear completely.

He already had a max deal with Dallas signed before the Bosh deal fell through.

it doesn't get any dumber than this folks... not saying we couldn't but you just aren't savvy enough to understand why we don't have both.

Either that or you're successfully trolling

    Joe Joe is correct.

Air Langhi, your scenario is implausible. Can't offer him a different contract from the one he already signed.

    3) Garcia was there to absorb the bs fouls KD was getting. You clearly forget how many bs air space and not even touch fouls Durant was getting. Go back and look at footage of that series.

2)Carlisle will make those guys commit way better than McFail ever could.

1)Parsons was on 2 guys at the same time or him and Lin shared 50/50 coverage of Jame's man when they were on the floor. It was hilarious to watch Parsons or Lin having to cover so much for a lazy defender.

    * I give Garcia credit for helping guard Durant because he did a good job. The intent with Westbrook out that series was to get Parsons in foul trouble. Parsons carried the Rox in that series if you look at the overall picture. James barely showed up and was very inefficient with his shooting. All this could have been solved last season if the Rox decided on a new coach instead of settling with McHale. And this year will be tossed yet again if McHale remains coach.

Can someone find that nifty chart a member here did that shows scoring averages of Lebron/Melo/KD vs their scoring #s when Parsons defends and when Ariza defends?

    It was a shocking chart.

Ok I'm too impatient. Can't find it in the search either, so here it is. Career PPG for certain SFs vs their numbers when Parsons & Ariza defends. Used bballref's head 2 head feature.

As you can see, it's open season for SFs when playing against Parsons. Not so for Ariza.

Is defense a part of the game? He isn't anywhere close to being much better than Ariza. Actually, Ariza is the MUCH better two-way player.
