How you remove your PPE and what you do with it are just as important as wearing it. If it's not removed in a certain way and the gear is contaminated you will get the virus while removing the PPE. The spokesman at CDC said that the health care worker was in contact with the last victim multiple times.

My heart goes out to the healthcare worker. Imagine trying to be careful but not really having been trained for the "real thing," doing your best to care for someone who is probably going to die *and* who could infect you, and then, contracting the virus and watching all the same protocols you tried to practice going into effect around you, everyone approaching you with a hazmat suit and a look of fear. God bless.

Run to the woods everybody, seriously i'm getting paranoid at school and when taking the metro...it's just a 4 hour trip and a 1 hour flight to Houston...

If I hear of one case in Houston then i'm out, literally will bounce to another country.

Hospital needs to work on the protocol of removing protective clothing.

That or it's airborne and its certainly not that.

I wish they would quit claiming: "ebola is actually quite difficult to contract."

I know they want to keep everyone calm (e.g. thatboynick in this thread), but it doesn't sound *that* difficult to catch.

^ commodore, I didn't hear anyone say there wouldn't be a transmission in the US once it was here. Seemed downright likely to a number of people. I think CDC has claimed an "outbreak" in the US is unlikely, and things like that. I guess it depends on your definition of outbreak.

Would just caution everyone again to worry more about flu, which is going to kill over 50,000 Americans this year. Nevermind diabetes will get another 300,000+, but that's a whole different digression.

It is difficult to contract in a country that has healthy immune systems.

Africa's issue with malnutrition probably doesn't help very much, as well as there problems with malaria, hiv, and other diseases.

unless these "experts" are some guy down the pub you know, your post isn't accurate.

The CDC has said for months a case is likely to pop up here.

Yeah, I think even in late August they were distributing urgent messages to US hospitals on how to deal with possible ebola patients.

It seems like this hospital and its workers are full of rooks.

BTW, a clinic in Braintree Mass, about 20 minutes south of Boston, is reporting that they have quarantied it and have isolated a person suspected of Ebola (about 2 hours ago).

"John Monahan of Fox 25 reports that the patient had recently traveled to Liberia, and came to the facility to refill a prescription. He then reportedly returned to his car before clinic staff ran out after him to prevent him from leaving."

Might be an over-reaction but its justified. Does not hurt to be cautious.

as a libertarian im opposed to ebola being used as excuse for govt grabbing more power. let the free market and individuals sort this out. i just heard on the radio that cdc wants more money b.c it now gets less than 1/2 what it used to get in 2006. well look how bad a job it did. they shouldve asked for more money if they werent ready for this last year. now that its already out there, no sense in giving govt more money. if pvt business were in charge, infected ppl wouldnt get on airplanes and they wouldnt be sent home to expose more ppl.
