Yao used to be slender. That at least made his frame look small. Now he's packed on some pounds, looks like a giant!
The legend of Yao. In a hundred years the history books will be saying they named the Great Wall after him instead of the other way around. Shaq is 7'1" and in that pic he sure looks more than 3 inches taller than Shaq.
I have thought for a while that Yao got taller. He was never that much taller than Shaq... look: A bit taller in those photos, but nothing like how he towers over him now.
Did a little measuring. Yao Ming is 9 inches taller than Shaq in that pic. Now, Shaq is slouching a bit, which could take away an inch or two. I put Shaq at 6'11, which puts Yao at 7'8". Assuming Shaq stood up more straight, he'd be 7'0" or 7'1"... which was his listed height. So if Shaq stood up straight, he'd be 7 or 8 inches shorter. Either way, it looks like Yao is about 7'8". No way he's 7'4".
Wow that's crazy!! Yao definitely has grown since those all-star photos. If you can make Shaq seem normal or rather small, you ARE a freaking GIANT!
He played at 7 foot 7 with shoes. I believe he is wearing Shape Ups in this photo so your measurements seem accurate.
I love Yao Ming. But seriously.... photos of him are hilarious! Even Dikembe looks small. Jeremly Lin looks like a little kid! And this one is my favorite. JJ Watt, all 6-5 290 of him, looks like a high schooler.
