just rewatched every offensive 1Q possession. you are watching fitzpatrick with rose colored classes if you think he shoulders no blame. the biggest problem with fitzpatrick is he does not go through his progressions, and when the 1st read isnt there he either forces it or has no clue what to do. also, he doesn't even try to go to the hot route when the colts blitzed. he's not a quick thinker. as i said, fitzpatrick was not solely responsible for that loss, it was a team effort in typical fine texans fashion. but, he's nothing more than an average back up qb, and as it stands he's the 2nd worst starting qb in the nfl.
If you don't think Mallet will be any better (and I don't either) _ than what's the point. He got beat out by a second round rookie (who played in a small college conference). I think he was just brought in to be a backup just in case Fitzpatrick goes down with an injury.
It's not on Fitzpatrick, either. The Texans had 9 plays in the 1Q; they included a drop pass and two sacks. The Colts had 29; they included 4 third down conversions (one from 9, another from 15), 3 TDs, 1 FG. But, sure - "FITZPATRICK!!!!" ..... uhm, OK.... we're going to excuse a 24-point 1Q because the Colts took their foot off the gas and *only* scored 9? Do all of your books start with chapter 2? The defense certainly had their moments. But they couldn't stop 3rd-10 in the 2Q - led to a FG right before half; gave up the bomb to Hilton after the Texans had cut it to 6 (27-21); and allowed the Colts to convert a 3rd-9, 3rd-13 (the horrendous call on Bouye so I'll cut slack - that was a *terrible* call) and a critical 3rd-5 with about 3 minutes left - all in the 4Q. Who thinks that? Fitzpatrick is as good as the team around him. If you're spotting the other team 24 points, yeah - you're in trouble. But I don't think its unreasonable to suggest that if the Texans play all game like they did 2Q-4Q, that they can win some games with Fitzpatrick.
Russell Wilson had one of the worst pass blocking offensive lines in the NFL last year (he was sacked over 50 times) and a lackluster receiving core.... But y'all keep making excuses for Fitzpatrick all you like... Lol...
Fitzis ok .. . for now. . . but saying he was only 5% to blame is just wrong he DID fumble. As someone pointed out . . . i dunno if BO'B is holding him back or what Rocket River The Playcalling some times is baffling
I would take him... Have you heard the whispers that New England may ship off Tom Brady....??? May be a long shot possibility if New England bombs out this year.
I have no clue at all whether Mallett will be any better than Fitzpatrick. I do believe Fitz isn't a QB that makes it easy on his receivers... he throws often to the wrong place, and he throws a hard to catch pass. And its hard to expect that to get better. A bigger concern... the areas he throws to is much smaller than other QBs. That seems to make it harder for his receivers to get open (its like how hard it is to complete passes in the red zone... defenses have less field to have to defend). I really wish the Texans would try a long pass in the first or second series... to at least make the defenses think about covering a bigger field.
And of course like many fans have stated about Mallet, Brady is a statue back there he would get killed.
This is such a monumentally silly suggestion. Whatever you think of Russell Wilson - he's an appreciably better QB than Ryan Fitzpatrick. It seems remarkable this even has to be mentioned, and yet... Ryan Fitzpatrick is not capable of rising above the level of his team. But the idea that the Texans can't win games with him after they very nearly won with him last night *after falling behind by 24 points*.... I mean, it's just profoundly silly.
The Pats are a cut throat organization and Jimmy G looks awfully good.... You're probably right though. But just going by this year _ I would rather have Hoyer because he's been the better player. He's been ballin...
The only thing I suggested is Fitzpatrick is garbage. But yea _ we can beat garbage teams with him... Yayyyyy.... And nearly winning or barley losing is still an "L".... You can swing it however you want... We nearly beat Seattle last year... So what...!!!
More like he would kill with the weapons we have. Id say give Fitz a couple more weeks under one condition, Shave the beard. Maybe it frees him up a little more to make quicker better decisions. The new and improved Fitzmagic.
Bring mallet in. There is nothing to lose by doing so. Fitz is clearly not taking us anywhere and even if we did make the playoffs with him, we wouldn't go far. Which would leave us with high draft picks. If we bring mallet in, the worse thing that could happen is he plays just like fitz. If he plays better great. If he plays worse great. At least we know and move on(from fitz or both).
Brady's 40 yard dash time at the combine - 5.28 Mallet's 40 yard dash time at the combine - 5.37 Brady's age - 37 Mallet's age - 26 Kind of doubt Brady can outrun Mallet now. [/sidebar]
No; what you suggested is that the contributing factors that are limiting Ryan Fitzpatrick (terrible pass protection, suspect playcalling, an unhealthy Foster for 1.5 games, WR drops and fumbles) are somehow irrelevant. And then you went and set the bar at "defending Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson," which is absurd.
