As a random 6' white guy I'm pretty much used to always getting picked towards the rear end of the selection line when I play pickup with a bunch of strangers who don't know any better. However its then my duty to make sure I drop 20 on them that game, get at least one really good block in the open court, and make sure they don't make the same mistake the next game. If I do what I know I can, its never a question of getting picked late in the pecking order. If you can play, and people know it, you are getting cred & respect. That's the beauty of sports. It shows how stereotypes absolutely exist, and it shows that within a few minutes you can throw that stereotype in the trash and come off the court as equals.
Exactly. . . .the thing is .. .you have to be give the opportunity . .. you gotta get on the court! I hate when people freeze people out . . . or set bad expectations. Being a bigger guy . . . I am a good rebounder for someone not so tall I and a better passer and shot blocker than people expect I'm not [well i'm old now] but i never was all world but i could play the game well.
