This Fitz discussion is the Carr discussion reincarnated. Are there other problems on this team? Of course there are. But that doesn't make Fitz's limitations less of a problem.
Game was a little closer than I thought it would be. Texans should have pulled it off. Too many mistakes. (Fat Randy missed FG, Andre's catch/fumble, Fitzpatrick's fumble to seal the game)
At least he acknowledges it... I don't understand why he gets so much love around here. He pretty much lost the game for us last night. He has a sure INT bounce off his HEAD because he's trying to make a big hit, he misses a tackle in the backfield that ends up converting a 3rd down to a 1st down because he's trying to make a big hit, and he falls down on a long bomb TD to Hilton. He's killing us right now.
I get what you are saying, but Fitz is playing better than Carr ever did. 65%+ completion 8 Yards Per Attempt (some think most important stat in QB rating) For context on that stat, his is higher than Luck right now. I think the Fitz hate is being overblown. No, he's not a very good QB. But he is certainly good enough to be a fringe playoff team with if your oline isn't getting shredded and your defense doesn't get gashed consistently. I know people want to kill Fitz, but the Texans haven't stopped the run all year and they haven't stopped teams that want to throw downfield on them in 4 years. The first quarter last night was a perfect example of what is wrong with this team The online was butter and Fitz had a man his face before he could complete his dropback. The defense was absolutely shredded. We have terrible safety play in coverage, Joseph can't stop anyone with speed and we don't have a single above average linebacker on the field right now. Despite all of that, Fitz actually had us in the game. How anyone is knocking Fitz after last night is crazy to me. He was making the plays when the oline nutted up and gave him just a decent amount of time.
Safety play has to get better. Pick up some dude off the street over Swearinger right now. BUT, at least he's taking ownership of his pathetic play last night.
Hope Clowney comes back ready to clown on some folks. The entire team needs to play for their jobs every day.
What a crazy turn of events in last nights game. From having your ass kicked throughout the first half to the comeback and then the Fitzpatrick signature **** up. Andre Johnson, I can't believe he fumbled that ball. Hopkins, what a pathetic, pathetic attempt at trying to recover the fumble at the end. All the hard work to come back thrown away with 2 late game TO's. Texans should have won that game. Just like last week.
Also, it's twice now that Lewis has tripped in the end zone, leading to a touchdown. IIRC, he had fairly good position on both plays prior to the trip. Seriously needs to work on his footing!
Completely agree with everything here. Im actually shocked that Fitz was getting ripped on so hard after the game. Yes, the last play was HORRIBLE...but, if he's going to get so much hate for that, then toss equal amounts towards AJ for his fumble, Duane Brown for his lack of blocking, the secondary for their complete inability to cover Hilton...Outside of Watt and Foster, Fitz and Merci were probably our 3rd and 4th best players last night. I can understand that Fitz has limitations and I know he's absolutely not a solution, but he is far from "the guy" holding this team back. He made some really good throws last night. And the plays that ended up as incompletions or sacks, well, he was getting pounded before he could take 3 or 5 steps back. The offensive line needs some fixing...and Duane Brown needs to get his ass out of his head. He's supposed to be the superstar of that line and he's been atrocious.
By the way, I forgot where I read this...but someone wrote that it must really suck to be JJ Watt, throw your heart out there on every single play, and then have Hopkins give such crappy effort there to recover the fumble. I wish these guys had 1/10 of the heart JJ has.
I agree. A few guys had off games or bad moments yesterday, but there are some systemic problems that will persist for the rest of the year.
Nothing has happened to them. They are still the same players they've been since 2011. People write it off every year, but it is consistently the same problem. When teams decide to throw against us they have no trouble at all. It has been this way for years. Our defense looks better when teams are running against us (even when we can't stop the run) because it suppresses the score artificially. Even last night, the defense looked great until the end when Luck needed to get them another score. What happened? The Colts went right down the field and scored again after we cut it to 6 the first time. Nothing has changed in 3 or 4 seasons. No pressure up front except from one man and no real pass coverage in the back.
"Systemic Problems" -Duane Brown looks like he's on the decline pretty sharply -You are mediocre or worse as both guard spots -The Right Tackle has moments of improvement but is still nothing special -You have no true deep threat -QB is mediocre -Tight Ends...I dunno do they even play? -No linebacker that is above average. The LB is actually downright poor most of the time -Safeties are mediocre or worse in coverage -Corners are bad on deep routes which makes them sag at the line and give up the short ones -Both corners are bad at avoiding penalties -Defensive line is average outside of JJ Watt -Tackling is poor across the defense Phew. Right now it's clear that JJ Watt and Arian Foster are still very good or better. They could find snaps on any team in the league. I'm not sure there is another play on the team that you could guarantee would start for random NFL team you pulled out of a hat.
They have plenty of heart. Talent is the issue. I cant get mad at Deandre on that play. Fitz should have got rid of the ball.
XSF was pretty terrible last night. We missed this dude more than I thought we would.

Finally getting discharged from the emergency room today. Wow... people find a way to blame everything on Fitz. When are people going to realize that he had a good game last night, that not everything is his fault, that there are more bigger underlying problems with the team and roster than QB?. Quite disappointing to hear from actual fans of the team, makes me question their intelligence.
You can't get mad at Deandre for not even attempting to recover a fumble on a potential game winning drive? That was pathetic on his end.
Wow, you're really excusing Hopkins on that? Yeah, Fitz should have gotten rid of the ball...Brown should have blocked better too...but Hopkins DEFINITELY should have made an effort for the ball.
How about Duane Brown getting wrecked all game? How about all of the missed tackles? How about the KR team being 25 YARDS (25!!!!) away from the ball on the onside kick? So many bigger reasons why we lost other than Fitzpatrick. The people who are blaming it on him are either too ignorant to realize the problems with the team or just looking for a scapegoat.
