I use it every time. Its just considerate and makes the roads safer. It is just one of those habits, like putting on your seatbelt, that was drilled in my head when I learned how to drive.

That sounds fine. I would consider you a signaler. The ones I'm talking about are more than 50% into a lane before they signal, and it's like why bother at that point.

I signal when I know it will help/affect other people.

The people that don't check their blind spots/surroundings and then merge are the problem.

Those people *never* use their blinker anyway... so it's a lost cause.

Cops don't "require" it. They are there to enforce the law. The law is clear that you must use signals for a lane change.

I use my signal 99% of the time and usually let other in that signal. There are a-holes that intentionally speed up but if you are paying attention, it's easy to circumvent those jerks and/or shake it off.

That said, sometimes people are being an "a-hole" to you because they think YOU are being an "a-hole" by not getting into your lane earlier. Are you "that" guy who merges from 59 to 610 at the last second bypassing the 1/2 mile row of cars? But that's a different subject.

I use them 100%. I can tell you for sure that I am a defensive driver.

My GF OTOH starts changing lanes and then puts the blinker on. Kind of pointless. I am more relaxed when I'm driving than others in most cases.

I consider myself an aggressive, type-A driver, but I always use my turn signals. It's not too difficult, and - believe it or not - it's useful for all of the drivers around you to know your intentions.

However, in some places I've lived (cough Utah cough), turning on your blinker is an open invitation for someone to accelerate into your blind spot because they "own the lane".

This is how you should use a blinker for changing lanes...

1.) Check your rear view mirror
    2.) Check your blind spot
3.) If open, flip on the blinker, else repeats steps 1-2 until an opening comes up
    4.) Start moving over

A pet peeve of mine are drivers who are like "okay time to get over" and the first thing they do is flip their blinker on and only after see if there are any openings. Who does that? Do you expect drivers to step on their brakes just so you can come over a lane and get to where you want to go faster?

The only time I can understand it is if there is an extreme traffic situation and you are changing lanes to exit. In that case it makes sense...maybe someone will be nice enough to let you in. In pretty much all other cases a driver should just wait their turn, when an opening comes up, flip the blinker on and come over without affecting anyone else or causing any confusion. Is that so hard?

90% of people are here good about using their turn signals, according to the poll. However, on the road I'd say it's 66%, and in rush hour closer to 50%. Either CF isn't being honest, or we have really good drivers in this thread lol.

One of these days, I'm going to loose it, get out of my car, and stab one of those assholes. I can't imagine what kind of self centered dick you have to be to conceive that plan, much less execute it.
