On the way to work today, I didn't see a single driver use their turn signal to indicate they were changing lanes. One of my biggest pet peeves. How often do y'all do it? If you're driving in the middle of nowhere with minimal traffic, I understand not doing it. However, in a city like Houston whether in rush hour or not, it's downright dangerous.

Everytime I use it, the guy behind me speeds up so I can't get into the lane.

Yeah that's really annoying. The trick is to give a 1 or 2 second warning and check no one's coming in that lane. It also helps if you have a high performance engine. Unless they are really close to you or stomp on the gas, you can 'steal' the spot.

One time, two drivers didn't use their turn signals and almost sandwiched into each other because there was that person who speeds up in that lane.

Always use my turn signals. If nobody is around, I might skip using it like 10% of the time.

80-90% of the time. 100% for seat belts, and I make all passengers wear 'em too. Just a habit I'm glad I can't quit.

I think this happens every single day.

Almost always would imply that I just leave them on while driving straight in one lane.

I use them when I'm turning or changing lanes, just about every time. It's just a habit, and it's easy, and it helps other drivers. Pretty simple.

By the way, I love the guy that changes lanes and gives like one blink when he's halfway over already. As in, "this was not a mistake, LOL."

Always use it unless I'm driving a stick and talking on the phone at the same time and have no hands left to hit the lever.

That's me. I put on my signal pretty much as I start coming over. It's basically one motion. So, does that categorize me as a signaller or non-signaller? I don't think this is my fault btw. I think it's those people who speed up to keep people from getting in front of them that's to blame. I don't even understand the psychology of doing that. They do know there's already a million cars in front of them, right?

This is a pet peeve of mine. It really bothers me when people don't use their signals, especially at left turn yield lights. I use mine 99.9% of the time.

If I put my signal on and someone starts to speed up, I will just cut over anyway (as long as I can do it safely, that is). People who speed up to prevent you from getting over should have their licences stripped.

I honestly don't do this all the time (I still do it a good 60%) and I've heard of people who have been pulled over for not doing it. Not exactly sure why...it's a one way lane. If I get a legitimate reason for why cops/people might require it, I'd be inclined to move my hand up a bit and signal.

As for the OP, I signal 100% of the time, even if I'm the only person at a stop sign in a neighborhood. It's just a part of driving that I don't want to give myself an excuse not to do. It's not like it's a lot of work anyway.

Ahhh, left turn YIELD. I totally understand. I always signal for those. But my point still stands for normal left turn lights! Why do cops require it?

Mine is always on, regardless of me turning or not.

If you don't use your turn signal, I'm not making room for you to move into my lane.

Same here. I've even gotten to the point where I can tell when someone is about to change lanes without a signal—there's something about the way they either change speeds or float around in their lane before they do it. When I see this happening, I make sure they can't physically get over.

If you don't use your turn signal, **** you. If you're reading this after answering anything less than "Almost Always" on this poll, **** you in particular.

Almost always, suffered through a nasty car accident and ride a motorcycle. I have a healthy respect for simple stuff like this. How hard can it be to do it. Lazy, lazy

Lmao well said. Now if it's a very tight fit then absolutely it's a must, but if they're is about 5,6 car lengths apart then I'll do the quick dab of the signal and turn off right away

I have noticed that buses always use them.

I tend to get annoyed at people when they don't, but at the same time, people might not use them because too many assholes speed up to block you when you do indicate you're about to change lanes.
