They have the #5 scoring defense in the NFL, is it really a new thing to those here that defense is always judged by that metric rather than by yards? Occasionally, like last year, the top scoring defense will also end up tops in yards as well, but most of the time that's not the case and they ALWAYS regard the top scoring defense as the best defense.
Bottom 5? By what metric? Yards? Take a more comprehensive approach. Points per game? 5th best. Turnovers forced? Best in the NFL. 3rd down conversion %? 7th best. Penalties? 6th best. This defense was good last year, and may be even better this year, but the offense is once again hanging them out to dry completely.
The offense is not hurting them as bad as last year. This offense is running the ball well and not throwing TDs to the other team.
I guess that's one way to look at it, last year we were something like the 2nd worst offense in the NFL and this year we're like the 9th worst so that's progress. For whatever reason some people want to bench the starting QB and go back to being the 2nd worst offense though.
Yeah but the pick 6 is sort of a fluky thing, that's why they don't even track statistics on it. How many of Eli Manning's 27 interceptions last year were pick 6's? Nobody knows. That said, the one play with the weak pass to the flat that Kubiak kept calling for Schaub was a pick 6 machine. I've never seen anything like it before.
I guess some fans are content with not being the worst and some fans want to see progress towards being the best.
I love this. Two years ago people were fuming about having an "above average" QB, even at 12-4. Now we have a decidedly bad one, and we're content to stand pat? Got it.
That's not it, there's just disagreement as to what would be progress and what would be regression. You don't progress towards being better by putting a lesser QB in the game. The QB situation is what it is this year, there's nothing that's going to make it any better and change for the sake of change is foolish. We weren't ever winning the SB this year no matter what.
If he's the best you currently have on your roster, what's the point in making a change? Especially when you're currently tied for 1st place in your division.
As a Schaub hater from 2010 let me address this. With Schaub, I knew the coaches were content to ride with him. This would be the guy we lived or died with and I knew he would never win a SB. The coaches have no such belief in Fitz so I have no urgency for them to dump him.
They are letting teams march up and down the field and their getting turnovers near the redzone. There is a lot of luck involved with that.
Or it's just how the defense is set up. When you play bend don't break, you try to eliminate the big plays and you clamp down to prevent scoring. This isn't a new thing and shouldn't surprise anyone. When the Pats won the SB in 01 they had the 6th best scoring defense but gave up the 8th most yards while forcing the 8th most turnovers.....it's the style of defense RAC goes with.
This has already been explained. Haha. Hehe. Because I've seen Ryan Fitzpatrick keep his team in the playoff chase only to crap on them enough times to know better. The Texans defense might drag us into the wildcard if they suddenly go from good to great, but I'm under absolutely no delusions that we're anything other than, at our absolute tippy tippy tip top best, a one-and-done.
Yes, but not intelligently. A change for the sake of change while your team is still in a position to make the playoffs is foolish.
If the Texans sweep the Jags and Titans, which they should, they have 7 wins. They beat the Browns and Steelers, which they should, they have 9 wins, that's a borderline playoff team right there. They win one more and they are almost certainly in.
