who said canaan even holds it over ish smith? canaan will be battling it out with ish smith. Johnson probably won't have any significant rotation until all star break unless he goes HAM at preseason and pulls a parsons rookie year summer campaign.
I certainly like Johnson's game over Canaan's but I think he spends most of the season in RGV no matter what. Hopefully we won't have to see THAT much of Canaan.
You seem to be high on Canaan. What are your expectations of him this season? PPG? APG? How will his defense look? What kind of role do you envision him playing? I like Canaan as a shooter but I am not sold on him as a finisher at the rim or a playmaker that can create for others. Gets blocked way too often for my liking. He seems to be a score first PG but do we really need that when the 2nd unit is likely to have guys like Terry, Daniels, Cisco, Pap who are gunners.
Without a trade, Canaan is the second best scorer/playmaker from the perimeter on the team behind James Harden. He should be on the floor every minute Harden sits along with playing alongside Harden and Bev in small ball lineups. Defensively he doesn't appear to me to be a difference maker. But we need his offense. I expect him to break out and increase his trade value substantially if we do not trade him in the next few weeks.
Ok big guy. Mr we are not trading parsons. Canaan does have the offensive ability; he can score at will. He doesn't have good handles though and seems skittish with the ball and in transition sometimes. He probably needs more playing time. He will be battling out with Ish Smith in preseason. His competition is Smith not Johnson.
One of the issues with Canaan is that he's something of a ball hog and is far too reliant on foul calls to score IMO. He's another example of a PG that thinks they are a SG. If Nick Johnson can work on his 3 point shooting to the point where he's decent at it (he has a way to go) then he's a better fit with the team IMO. I just feel like Canaan isn't going to get the calls at the NBA level so he'll end up wasting a lot of possessions trying to be Harden.
Canaan is not a playmaker, From College till Now he has always been a scorer. Dude had 22 assist to 21 turnovers in the limited time he had last season
Yeah, bballdoofus seems to forget that if Canaan were any good, he'd have gotten burn in front of daniels. Canaan is a shooting guard in a mini pg body.
Well he's far too short to actually be a SG and the reason I say he "thinks" he's a SG is because that's what kind of game he tries to play.
