So you don't like him? Even if he doesn't work out as a starter wouldn't he be a good long term back up. As long as they don't resign him for starter money, don't you think it could work for the team's benefit?
I can't possibly like him because I have never seen him play with the Texans. Why give him more money before you know anything.
holy **** this is the stupidest post i have seen in a long time. BoB is five - I repeat FIVE - games... yes, GAMES... into his first NFL head-coaching gig and you already "see some kubiak in obrien". i mean holy f***ing hell. we are 3-2 and tied for a division lead. sure, fitz is a major liability a lot of the time but what exactly have YOU seen of mallet that makes you think BoB should abandon his division-leading QB for him? "coaching scared".... haha.... is that why he put the game in fitz's hands with that spread call on 3rd and 2? seems like a "scared" coach would've given it to foster again. posts like this make this place unbearable sometimes.
are you serious? we were so close to 0-16 last year; that coaching staff was horrendous this is BoB's first head coaching stint in the NFL, and I guess a team that was on the tails of 2-14, is supposed to be 5-0 right now... calm your t*** dude and understand this season is a rebuilding one... BoB is nothing like Kubiak; even ****ing players have acknowledged that...
yes, i saw some kubiak in BOB yesterday. to name a few: poor clock management, inconsistent halfs, unexplainable play calling with the game on the line, coaching not to lose... i still believe in BOB, but i didnt think he would cost us a game. lets hope he makes the qb switch sooner than later.
When you have a below average QB you tend to play conservative. What I don't want to see happen in BOB that kubiak did is where loyalty to a player ends up hurting the team.
Mallet must really suck if he can't beat out a rookie (Garapolo) or a 9 year journeyman that has proven to be very mediocre QB.
You aint lying... When you throw for 2 TDs and 6 interceptions over the last three games with a qb rating of 59, 75 and 64 and still have your job, Mallett must be horrible.
that is as disingenuous as you can get. 1) Garoppolo (correct spelling) was a 2nd round pick. It was not a matter of "beating him out", it was New England holding onto Mallett until they could get any value for him. No way they open with 3 QB's on the 53, nor would they cut a rookie 2nd round pick. 2) Fitzpatrick - considering Mallett arrived in Houston 4 days before the NFL season opener, he virtually had no shot at "beating out" Fitzpatrick. Don't worry though. Mallett will be the QB within the next couple of weeks. Pretty much after Fitzpatrick wraps up his 0-3 stretch and flushes the season down the toilet.
Mallett is his guy, always has been, if he was worth a damn, he'd be playing. He's not, and never has been worth a damn.
Ugh, this. Obrien not a sugar coatey coach or a sleaze like Harbaugh. Feel like he'd put Mallett in if he was a better option so Fitz is our best QB which means there are teams with backups better than our collective group.
O'B hand picked Fitzy before the season started, if anything Fitzy is "his guy" and its gonna take a Schaubesk performance to unass him from that spot it would appear. If only the Texans would have consulted you before hand they could have saved a draft pick and passed on Mallett. SMH
The reason we have him is so that there would be a throwaway vet who knows the system in case Fitz gets hurt. Ryan Mallett was never intended to start if he didn't have to. I know in the mind of some fans, Mallett is the savior, but there's simply no reason to think that based on what we've seen from him, it's nothing but willful delusion.
I'd be ready to give Mallet the ball soon from what I've seen from Fitz. Mallet wasn't replaced by Garappolo because Mallet was bad. OR because Garappolo was that good. There were a few factors at play in NE moving Mallet, and Texans wanting to land him: 1) He is at the end of a contract year. NE realized RM never got any serious PT behind Brady and they are going to have to pay him bigger dollars. The smart money says to start over with another highly touted rook and save the money. 2) On the flipside, RM has been tutored for 3 years by one of the best in the game, Tom Brady. That's at least something. Better than sitting behind and learning from someone like Matt Cassel. 3) Coach BOB is familiar with Mallet as he was OC at New England when Mallet came into the league. 4) Supposedly O'Brien's system is similar to the NE system so Mallet would be comfortable with it and could adapt quickly Seems like Mallet was insurance in case Fitz didn't cut it. And analyzing our pathetic and weak passing game, it's Hammer time, or at least time to bring in the Mallet. He surely can't do any worse. He can hand off to Foster as easily as Fitz and hopefully won't throw behind open receivers. He also has a booming arm and can stretch the field to take advantage of AJ or Hopkins. Right now we have 1 'known' commodity and 1 sort of unknown commodity. We know what we've got with option #1 and it's not the sound of a jackpot. Shouldn't we at least take a peek at option #2? Can it be any worse?
no one thinks mallett is "the savior". you keep saying that, but no one has ever uttered that drivel. not sure what you don't understand about Fitzpatrick inching towards "it can't get any worse" territory. Indy and Pitt will seal the deal. Mallett will take over the Texans at 3-4, and hopefully he can salvage the season. But, I doubt it. At least he will be more entertaining than noodle armed Fitzpatrick from Harvard. Did I mention he went to Harvard?
There's no such thing as "it can't get any worse". Unless you are some kind of insider who is there in practices and sees something in Mallett that he's never shown since he's been in the NFL then you don't know what you are talking about.
Given BOB's frustration on how bad the offense has been playing I think it's possible we could see Mallett come in as a replacement over the next few weeks. Hell if we see another 80 yard first half performance against the Colts I think we could see him.
Insider, eh? You just said the following: How on earth do you know that? Yes, there is "it can't get any worse" NFL starting QB territory.... It's currently kept by Geno Smith and EJ Manuel (who was wisely benched for Orton last week).
