I couldn't even net a job from snagajob's website as a Chuck e cheese attendant. I was ready to throw the rat suit on.That lead me to apply anywhere. I desperately worked for a warehouse agency. That's some of the hardest backbreaking jobs in the world. Bending down picking up 10 lbs off a conveyor belt every 4 seconds nonstop. By break time I went up to the manager, "but but they told me I was going to be here a couple hours only".
I delivered pizza for a day for a friend who was sick. I was like fugg dat schiett after the first few hours and left.
I worked at a small Chevron gas station for 4 hours before walking out because it was too nasty. I left for my lunch break and just never came back.
worked on a project in my university protein chemistry lab and had to throw out radioactive isotope waste every few days
Wow.. I did that 5+ years and it was great. Money, time flies, and the females you meet. It's much easier to get invited over to a woman's house delivering her a pizza... Why?... because you've already been!! I've met a few famous people as well.. Cutino Mobley, Willie D, local TV broadcasters. Great job for someone in the 16-25 age range. My worst job was at paper-tube factory. They made the tubes that go in the middle of papertowel and toilet paper rolls. Crappy pay, time moved backwards, can't meet anyone. I walked off after a couple of hours.
I did the warehouse job for a few months as a summer job during school. Hard work, but better than working at a McDonalds or Taco Bell. Worst job... before getting that warehouse job I worked one day for an aluminum can recycling company, in a large truck that drove to the worst sections of San Francisco picking up cans and paying people. My job was to take the plastic garbage can filled with cans, weigh it, then toss the cans into the back of the truck. You'd be amazed how much stale soda and beer stays in the cans. I went to a day-old bakery after work and the people at the store asked me to leave (I reeked so bad). Recently when I was between jobs I had part-time jobs at OfficeMax and Home Depot (hardware and garden departments). The OM job was 6am to 12 noon or 1pm. The HD job was 6pm to 12 midnight. I was never so tired working for so little money...
I got out of college.. It took only 2 days to get a call from a possible employer. They didn't tell me the company name but they said I would be hired on in an entry level position and they gave me the address. The office was in the galleria area so I thought, hell why not check it out. I arrived in a suit and there were literally 30-40 people there in suits with their resumes and little books in hand. We were all crammed into a 500 sq foot office space with a door to a back room. I thought to myself, what the hell is going on here.. They were calling people in and out of the office and I noticed after a few people were called, they were shaking hands with each other in groups and leaving the building.. It still never clicked in my head was what happening. So after 45 minutes or so, they call my name. I walk into the back room which was literally a table and some plastic chairs. To make a long story short, this wasn't a job. It was "outside sales" of office supplies based on commission only. They gave me the speech about how you can make a grand or more a week blah blah.. I needed money so I decided to give it a try. I got in a car with 2 other douchebags who have been doing this already. We drove around to all of the La Michoacanas and hole in the wall Dr. offices within a 10 square mile area (we could not go outside of this area) in Houston trying to sell them printing paper, markers, pens and ****. We sold one box of paper to a small Dr. office in the ghetto.. The only reason they bought it was because one of the guys literally wouldn't leave until they bought something. On our way back to the "office" I asked one of the guys how much they made last week. He said "$80 MAN IT WASN'T A GREAT WEEK BUT NOW BAD!" We got back to the "office" at 3 or so and I just got out of the car, walked straight to my car without saying anything and never went back. They called me at least 20-30 times in a two week period before they stopped.
I was going to post a story JUST LIKE this. Out of college, see an entry in the paper for "Entry Level Sports Marketing" (I think it was actually the Greensheet, LOL....) I had the exact experience as you except that I put 2 and 2 together a little sooner than you did. I got in the car with 3 other douchebags and said "wait, I need to get my jacket out of my car" then got in my car, flipped them off and drove away. Don't ever answer an ad for "entry level sports marketing".....
Warehouse seems to be the theme here. Warehouse putting together inventory guns for department stores during the summer in college. 8 hours a day felt like 16....paid pretty good though.
