I'm not sure I've kept up with all those threads. Is there some new requirement that one must be a CF Historian to post? I thought the video was provocative. I suspected it might be simplistic... so I invited further education not egotistical ridicule. I have read .... more than five minutes.... and I'm not so convinced of the overturn as you are. Mutations are random both progressive and destructive. One step forward; one step backward... or two! No doubt in my mind that evolution is a force of nature; in fact it is "natural selection. Too bad you critics are not as elegant as the Lenski Experiment. The "same tired old canards at every turn?" Pro-Life is my go-to D&D topic not Evolution. Hope you're not the official CF Historian!
I don't remember many threads on Evolution. Most of my D&D action is on the ABORTION topic. I believe that I have a layman's understanding of what Evolution is about. I guess it depends on how you define layman. Others here think one should be an expert before posting a thread topic... You don't like cartoons? I've seen lots of those kinds of illustrations of some very illuminating TED talks. Being a cartoon has NOTHING to do with its validity. You sure make a mountain out of a molehill.... bothered by three words in ALL-CAPS?
The video is meant to be provocative since it's certainly not meant to educate. It's just propaganda. Is your 6 minutes of reading from the same source as the video? Methinks it might be, or at least from somewhere similar. Go read Dawkins, Gould, Coyne, etc. I'll happily suggest specific titles if you wish. I must be honest though - I don't expect you to actually read any of them even if I offer to have them shipped to your house. You do realize, of course (with your layman's knowledge!), that the process is more than just mutations, right? Mutations themselves are certainly random (although some genes are more likely to mutate than others!) the process as a whole is anything but random. It's how those mutations are selected for (or against) that causes them to spread throughout a population causing a change in the frequency of alleles over time and it's certainly not random. A single base-pair change (point mutation) leads to sickle-cell anemia by changing a single amino acid in hemoglobin. Being heterozygous for that trait confers a small (but big enough!) resistance to malaria. Of course being homozygous for this recessive trait probably kills you, but the heterozygote advantage is significant enough that the gene spreads throughout the population anyway. Look at the range maps for malaria and sickle-cell genes and you'll notice they overlap quite well. Coincidence?
Anyone who "wasted their time" did so voluntarily. I will say that you have hit upon a hubris of so many in this place; everyone thinks they are the expert.... at everything. If there was just one "thing" there would be no need for Debate nor Discussion. Of course, that is the way your side seems to want it anyway....
So this video was all about OBSERVABLE then it ends by saying that a supernatural all powerful being is the answer to everything? lol? Why would anyone present an argument like this? It's like someone spending two minutes trying to convince you that broccoli is unhealthy for you, then finishes his story by telling you that you should eat horse feces instead. Are you still going to believe what he said about broccoli after being told to eat horse feces?
And yet you found a video that fit your confirmation bias and then got all huffy and puffy and butthurt when people took you to task for posting what is essentially inane drivel. Hubris? Being made in the image of god is the ultimate hubris, no?
The analogy is still incomplete. The Creationist assumes that the debate is centered around belief. I don't "believe" evolution is true. I "believe" beliefs are "theories or hypotheses". Discuss! There's many flaws to this. The principles behind evolution can be used as frameworks towards practical applications like anything biology related, agriculture, genetic sequencing, immunology and computer science. So it's not just a belief that you can't prove and then pretend that acceptance is an act of humility though the God of the Gaps. Just like how people believe the Big Bang is hokkum or of a 5,000 year old earth yet they will still consume GPS/radio telescopes or nuclear power and disassociate the applications derived from these magical magical beliefs. Is there still work to be done? Totally. If everything was answered, science would die. Except that was never the frame or intention of the r****ded video. It's painting a confined frame of equivalent opinions because that's how the creator desperately to wants envision it. They're better off praying for some action.
What is it with you and "butthurt"? Actually the video found me; I wasn't looking for anything. How is "being made in the image of God" hubris?
Butt-hurt is a very apt description of your tired "aww shucks, I was just trying to have a lil discussion here folk" shtick when people call you out on it. You get all passive aggressive and play the victim. And are you honestly asking how being made in the image of god is hubris? Really? Being made in the image of the creator of the entire universe (in your mind) is about the most prideful thing I can imagine. To think otherwise is disingenuous.
that is true. No one had to actually pay attention to your nonsense. it's funny that people who take the time to educate you are arrogant experts in your eyes. what you did was the equivalent of someone posting a video that would make the case for Jesus being the anti-Christ and then saying, "let's discuss". And then calling all the people who ripped them apart for that as, "wow everyone thinks they are and expert. What hubris! What's the point of D&D".
I've never considered that before. That's interesting. I get what you're saying. I think it certainly allows for man to feel "special" among other creatures. On the other hand, I've always viewed it as something universal among people...so you and me and everyone else are "created in the image of God" so none of us can claim some sense of superiority over one another; and in fact, it's influenced the way I feel and act with regard to treating with respect people I might otherwise seek to avoid. If any of that makes any sense.
Giddy....so what did you learn from this thread? Do you understand now the video you posted was completely inaccurate and false?
So you are saying that religion has made people more tolerant? I have seen just the opposite. And giddy, are you ever going to address the chromosome evidence? You said you were disappointed about the lack of debate, so I threw some substance in there. You ignored it.
