Is there a way to factory reset an ipad without using itunes?

    Yeah this is why I didn't want to answer why, because not interested in arguing against what anyone else considers more or less usable.

    Really just hoping that if no one else is seeing what I'm describing regarding the hidden address bar, hidden page forward/back buttons only revealed upon extra swipes, bookmarks remaining open even after you click one unlike with ios7, I hope that it's just a matter of finding the settings for those. I don't even care about slower loading pages at this point, I'll get used to that. If I can just fix those three things I'm good.

    That is why I am asking the questions. I am not seeing the difficulty you are(n't) seeing. When I bring up safari, I have the opportunity to enter a web page in the address bar. When I scroll down, the address bar goes away and creates more real estate, but when I subsequently scroll up or down or tap, the address bar is back. If, for example, I have multiple tabs in Safari, clicking the 'x' makes them go away.

    The page forward/backward bars go away with the address bar upon scrolling down (again, it creates a bit more real estate), but they are back with a tap.

    I am not trying to convince you one way or another. I am genuinely interested in what you see different between the two as I have not seen anything that would even remotely make me want to revert back.

    Have you gone into Settings->Safari to see if there are any settings that may be of interest? I have not purposely changed any settings between IOS 7 and 8.

    ^something must be different with mine. Either that or the extra swipes that bother me (that weren't there with ios7) just don't bother you. Either way even if i were able to more effectively communicate it so that you could understand exactly what I'm seeing, I still wouldn't be to satisfy the follow up question, why the extra swipes are a problem. So I'll leave it a mystery I guess (& not flippantly, as I appreciate everyone's interest & attempts to help).

    Anyway looks like the 4th browser I've tried after the upgrade, opera mini, it might work out. So long as it doesn't start freezing up like dolphin, firefox, and even the ios8 safari browsers all did. ios7 safari never did that in all the time I used it.

    Also have to say I've noticed at least one weird advantage with ios8 though- for some reason in hbo-go, before a couple random episodes would be missing. They are there now. Still not going to upgrade to the next version, which it's already prompting me to do, .2 or something.

    Different strokes (no pun intended). :) I do see where you see the menu/URL bars disappear to show more screen when you scroll down, but when I touch the screen it comes back. In that respect it does not feel like an extra swipe to me - but that's me.

    Demanding? I was curious as to why he wanted to revert. When he stated his specific problem, I simply asked for more information because it was not noticeable to me.
