Altuve still has the advantage, but if he losses it will add Houston's history of sports shame.

Regardless of the final BA, Altuve has already had...

    (68) multi-hit games... franchise record
    (24) 3-hit games... franchise record (previous record 23, Biggio '98)
    (223) hits... franchise record (very respectable number for a franchise record)

Top 8th, Tigers down 10-4. Martinez is 1-4... average down to .336.

May not be a franchise record, but isn't he also leading the AL in steals? If we were deep in the playoffs could he be an MVP candidate?

Remember when Nolan Ryan was 8-16 and finished 5th in the Cy Young. That was sick.

Per my math, if Altuve goes 0 for 8 the rest of the year, Martinez would have to go 4 for 8 to take the batting title (.339 to .338).

A couple of more hits gets him to 225 for the year and means Martinez would have to go 6 for 8 to beat him.

    Come on, Altuve!!

I think he will get MVP votes.

It's a ten player ballot, right?

You don't feel players should be punished for missing games? Are you telling me that someone hitting 380-390 over 120 games is as impressive as someone doing it over 155 games? I certainly don't.

Not sure why anyone thought he would want to sit. He has been very competitive and proving people wrong ever since he was an amateur. He was an after though in the minors until he literally hit so well scouts had to take notice. His size, lack of power and humble background all were viewed as weaknesses.

As a professional he has been a GREAT hitter.. He hit in the minors and now in the majors. He will win the batting title and it will be because he is the best hitter, not because he sat out.

Steals leader is an excellent "feather". Leading the league in BA and STLs is an awesome accomplishment. Great stats and even greater that an H-Town player did it.

You shouldn't be. I call people like you "locals". You can't see passed your home biased. That's ok (maybe), but I travel the country daily. The same biased you display would get argued by another person's home biased. Two people can literally see the same thing and conjure two completely different synapsis. It's really comical. Not knocking you, it's just funny and happens everywhere.

OR..... maybe you have a preconceived biased against me personally. My statement of "BAD H-Town sports history" is pretty evident. Argue that if you want to.

I don't think anyone thought Altuve himself would want to sit. People just wanted him to sit to play it safe. No way is that guy taking himself out of the lineup.

You said Houston sports shame, as if the entire city is associated with garbage sports and choking. I too have spent plenty of time outside Houston and that's simply not true. What is this nationally recognized "shame" you speak of. The Astros are abysmal right now, but one bad run by one of our teams doesn't equate bad history.

    Describe our national rep.

Our history is losing and choking. If you haven't noticed outside of the city, it's because we're irrelevant. I still don't cheer for other teams though. I want Houston to shine.

Don't let the batting title slip away!!
