Huh, thanks for the heads-up. I just found an article stating that this rule change was BEING DISCUSSED, but I haven't seen anything about it definitively being IMPLEMENTED. Still, you're probably right about the change going through. Covington, Black and Mitchell would all go through waivers if they get cut. If another NBA team wants to claim their contracts (with a team seeking to claim Covington needing at least a small amount of cap room to do so, since Covington's deal was for three years using cap room), they are free to claim them. However, assuming each passes through waivers, the Vipers would hold their exclusive D-League rights. Also, even if another NBA team claims Covington off waivers but then subsequently decides to cut him, I believe the Vipers would STILL have his D-League rights, since his "Returning Player" eligibility for the Vipers may trump any Affiliate Rule for the other NBA team.
You are right. If we will be a little more patient, Cyberex, Plowman and Drew can predict DM will trade for LeBron James....SON!
It's like Morey has mental issue something similar to Geneva Jones. Instead of signing proven players he just wants to find the next diamond in the rough so he get his pat on the back.
That doesn't really matter. The "insiders" may have good leads or they may not, who cares, really? All they tell us is what they are told the front office is TRYING to do, these things may or may not happen, these moves are not like flipping burgers at McD son, they might be a bit more difficult than that and sometimes we may try all we want but they might not happen. But until they do happen or they are discarded completely, are the rockets forbidden from completing other tasks like completing their training camp roster? This Akil kid will likely never ever see a minute of play with the big boys, all we need him for is to make our real players sweat a bit during training.
Seriously like the depth and competition for bench minutes that Morey is assembling. Johnson, Daniels, Kostas, Terry, Donatas, Garcia can all be productive players on a very strong bench. I feel if Morey can cash in the picks, Lin TPE and maybe a player or two listed above + some of these bubble roster guys (Mitchell, I Smith, Canaan, Covington, etc) who might have a better chance on a team looking to rebuild and shed a productive but expensive expiring contract. It seems like the PG and PF spots could be upgraded with Ariza-type talent. Bev can go back too being the super sub and Jones has shown he can dominate at times plus I still think he has step forwards in development.
Food for thought, why are black players referred to as African Americans but European Americans called white? Hypocrisy?
