Iconic? Hitler is iconic. Anyway, just to continue this dialog. Can you explain how some of the BBS' worst posters (I'm sure you could name a few off the top of your head) are curiously in possession of some of the highest number of green bars this side of the Rio Grande? How does that correspond to the recruiting rating system? I maintain that the large and uncontrolled quantitative factor that goes into achieving rep is absent from the ratings of recruits, and as such makes for a poorly conceived metaphor.
And DaDakota is at Hakeem status. Why is this any different from the four and five star recruits by all of the armchair experts at the rating services who go on to be complete busts at the collegiate level? Simply becuase a rating/ranking system isn't perfect in every case doesn't merit it being thrown out.....as you can see, the OP who I am cuffing about with aplomb has tremendous faith in the Rivals rankings, down to the value of an individual star being a talismanic delineator/validator of a single person's opinion, which can then be extrapolated onto the larger group and is EMBLEMATIC OF TEH FAIL BECAUSE HE KNOWS IT. My metaphor is alive and kicking, dog. Neg repped for such a poor attempt to discredit it, and for that you had to "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, BREAK GLASS AND DEPLOY HITLER REFERENCE" so early in the game.
The dismissals have become a national story, and ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit weighed in on the situation Wednesday when speaking on the nationally syndicated Mike and Mike in the Morning radio show. “What do you expect him to do as a head coach when you’re trying to change things?,” Herbstreit asked. “Just say, ‘Oh well, you’re a really good player so we didn’t really mean these rules apply to you. You do whatever you need to do. We’re gonna talk to these other guys about trying to change the culture. You’re fine to be late for meetings or not give us your best effort. You’re good. Just keep doing what you do.’ “What do you think he’s gonna do? Of course he’s gonna kick guys off the team. That’s what coaches do. Charlie Strong isn’t the first coach to come around and kick guys off the team because he’s trying to change the culture.” The Horns also have two key players who are currently suspended for breaking team rules, wide receiver Daje Johnson and offensive tackle Desmond Harrison. Strong said Tuesday both players are scheduled to return to the team later this year.

and I have yet to be impressed with UT since Vince Young. Truth. But I am impressed with Aggie Football and everything they have done in the SEC since stealing Sumlin from UH. Winning in the SEC, Heisman's and national media love..... it should be UT not A&M - it's weird too me.
Totally agree...a Fiesta Bowl win and national championship berth just don't stack up against the chicken sandwich bowl.

Aggies aren't my team I'm just not a derp derp defensive and sensitive homer. UT is complete suck - and that's not acceptable for the crown jewel of all college football programs. Steal the Sumlin and let Strong go be a pastor at church which he would arguably be better at.
Goodell Wants To Meet With Strong Texas Longhorns insider Chip Brown is reporting that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the head of the NFL player's union, DeMaurice Smith, are "supposed to meet with Charlie Strong within the next week to talk about Strong's commitment to his five core values." It's easy to see why the NFL brass would want to meet with Strong. The NFL has been plagued by recent off-field issues surrounding domestic violence, the most notable being the Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice who slugged his then-fiance in an Atlantic City hotel elevator. The NFL initially suspended Rice for just two games before new video was released showing a full account of the event. Goodell then suspended Rice for the season. There are even calls for Goodell himself to step down as the league's commissioner. Meanwhile, Strong has dismissed nine Texas players over violations of team policies and suspended three others since taking the reins from Mack Brown. Even at the risk in disruption of his program, Strong has taken a stand for doing what is right over doing what helps a team win a game. Strong has said repeatedly that he runs his program based on five core values. The values are honesty, treat women with respect, no drugs, no stealing and no guns. http://texas.247sports.com/Bolt/Goodell-wants-to-meet-with-Strong-31464423 I find it interesting that the NFL is interested in the standards Strong is implementing at UT. Can Strong now sell to recruits that his standards are the ones to be used by the NFL?
I heard Strong isn't letting any of his players play in the NFL until they clean up the league. Seriously though, the NFL needs to bring in a college football coach to tell them how to conduct themselves in a sensible manner? They basically don't even drug test in the NFL anymore.
Charlie Strong inherited a team of suck, with no discipline or passion for football. Most of the players he inherited seem to just want to be able to wear those orange jerseys to help get laid. He made Louisville a force to reckon with in the BCS era, coming out of a mediocre conference. Give the man some time to get his group of players and develop them. LOL at people wanting him fired after 3 games because of underwhelming performances and letting go of crap players who had done nothing for the program. Same people asking for Strong to get the boot or the probably the same people that Winstons head.

To be fair, the only person on this thread that thinks he should be fired also values the chicken sandwich bowl over BCS games, so should probably be taken with a grain of salt. The Goodell stuff is interesting. The NFL probably thinks they'll get some good PR out of it, and maybe they will. To me, they come off as morons if they need someone to explain honesty, treating women with respect, no drugs, no stealing, and no guns. Even if they need help with implementation, it's pretty obvious how Strong's implementing it. For the egregious offenses (assault, rape, etc...), kick them the **** out. For the less egregious offenses (drugs), give them a couple of chances, then kick them the **** out. All pretty simple. Seems like it's good PR for Texas though, so I'll take it.
Damn that was the quickest give-up ever. I accept the surrender. But seriously - when people use the Aggies turnaround and success as a barometer for what UT be able to accomplish, don't try to dismiss the Aggies success. IDK maybe learn from it. Or steal it imo.(Sumlin) Glad UT is 100% behind Strong though. It will take a while to instill what he wants to instill.
