plow, I know you've been asked but I just wanna hear something from your perspective.

    A. Do you still feel strongly that we'll make a deal for a PG?

    B. Do you feel it will be more like a player that hasn't been mentioned much like Faried or Jackson?

    C. Does Dragic hit the market before Rubio?

I will repeat again for those of you that just want to keep ignoring this fact.

MOST NBA TEAMS HAVE THREE GUARD ROTATIONS at least.

There is no logjam at PG if the Suns resign Bledsoe

-Dragic & Bledsoe can both guard 2's and play off the ball. Isiah Thomas is probably best suited in a 6th man type of role regardless. Let me remind you that he's signed at 7 mil per year at a declining scale. They didn't give him a max contract or anything.

-Tyler Ennis, while I like his potential, isn't necessarily going to be a proven NBA starter or backup anytime soon. He's going to need time to adjust and work on the holes in his game in the D-League most likely.

-Despite what people think, Zoran Dragic(if they sign him) is not a PG. He's a SG/SF.

-The Suns have one of the cheapest front courts in then entire NBA with Morris, Morris, Len, Plumlee, all on rookie contracts

-The Lakers are paying their 3 guard rotation 48.2 mil, The Nets are paying 3 guards 49 million, the Pelles are paying 3 guards 36.5 mil, the Raptors are paying their 3 guards 28 mil, etc. etc.

-The Suns at most will be paying their 3 guard rotation 30 million this year.

    .......

More than likely Dragic gets a max deal this next Summer making around 18 a year, but the CBA is expected to take a bigger jump next year making that number very maintainable.

Eventually, yes, the Suns will have to add or extend a high dollar front court player or wing, but right now in the immediate future, there is really no reason for them to let "too much money in the back-court" stop them from keeping one of their 2 best players.

There are some people who have seen through the BS this whole time, but for the most part you guys have been led off the cliff by a couple Judas Goat's looking to assume themselves at your expense.

All that being said.... yes it is completely possible the Suns work out a way to trade Bledsoe mid season with a one year contract or something.

However it really doesn't change the fact that its been obvious the whole time there really hasn't been much to see. These contract hold outs are incredibly common in most sports and almost always end up with a training camp signing when the threat is there of the player missing paychecks due to suspension. We just haven't seen it as much in the NBA, but the new CBA has really shifted the power more towards the owners in these types of deals.

Oh... and Dragic isn't going anywhere. If Morey wants to call about him great, but its a big freaking waste of time to waste any energy discussing it here. Might as well be discussing Kevin Love's potential free agency next Summer. That's probably a more likely situation to fall in the Rockets lap than Goran Dragic leaving the Suns.

I would not call Sarver "cheap". Frugal is more like it.

Like any decent businessman he searches for good value on his investments. He's hardly the richest owner in the NBA (net worth 4 or 500 million?), especially being in real estate...I'm sure the '08 crash hit him hard.

The Joe Johnson saga? While many cite this as prime evidence to his cheapness, I've never viewed it that way. In summer '04 the Suns had a maxed Marion, a high-priced Nash and Amare's large extension needed to be done in September. There were indicators that RFA Johnson wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of playing 4th fiddle on the Suns, then the Hawks hand him a huge offer sheet. Sarver weighed the situation and thought an over payed, not exactly happy Johnson wasn't the best solution...good bang for those bucks. SnT for Diaw and two 1st rounders, failed to sign targeted Michael Finley, sign Raja Bell instead. STAT gets maxed and then promptly goes down for the season...Diaw plays amazing. Suns lose in conference finals. If Joe Johnson is resigned by the Suns, Raja Bell and Boris Diaw never play for the Suns, and those two starters were major Suns pieces. Do the Suns eventually win a ring with JJ instead? Maybe, but certainly not in ‘06 without Amare or Boris playing.

Was it being cheap to let J.Johnson go via SnT? Not in my opinion.

Selling 1st round picks and investing those monies on veteran free agents? It hard to argue against that being a sign of cheapness. I will say, during those years '04-'08, the Suns weren't thinking long-term, they were going for it “now”. They paid on the court later, but whatever savings Sarver achieved by selling picks, wasn’t exactly big. Misappropriation of funds would be closer to the truth to me.

Sarver has, and I’m sure will again go into the Luxury tax, but he won’t go into it without clear indications that the Suns are true contenders. Again, bang for the buck...well spent funds. He’s not going to throw around big money and hope for returns (see: Prokhorav). Approach it carefully, and then go over when the dividends are likely.

In ‘07-‘08 the Suns were into the tax...and still in the mix, but Kurt Thomas’s contract was going to cost Sarver 16 million (8 salary/8 tax). Huge cog Marion’s contract of 16m was an expiring and Shawn was b****ing he was under appreciated. Before the season the Suns signed Hill. He is viewed as a better value than Thomas and some Marion exit protection. Sarver “pays” the Sonics to take Thomas away. Gave them two future #1s for 2nd rounders. Would paying 8 million in tax alone for Kurt have been well spent money? Was Sarver simply cheap?

Gasol gets gifted to the Lakers, spelling doom, Suns panic, trade Marion by gambling on Shaq. It doesn’t work, but I doubt Kurt Thomas would have been the cure. Doubt it, but it would have been very expensive to find out. Keep Thomas and pass on Hill?

    Cut to current.

Suns finally go full youth rebuild, always an inexpensive route. Suns president (and former agent) Babby has had control for a couple years, but Sarver (mostly & thankfully) lets go of the reins...the personel reins. Young guru McDonough is hired as GM.

The Suns are chocked full of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year “prospects”. Many more draft picks still to come. Players coming or will be coming over from Europe and three young or fairly young dynamic combo guards.

The current payroll situation is extremely good...
    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/phoenix.htm

Even after Bledsoe is re-upped and the Morrii are extended, the salary situation next summer won’t be anywhere near freaking out Sarver, that is a Rocket fan’s hope.

Even if Gerald Green has another great year, the Suns will probably just let him walk. With TJ Warren, the raw Archie Goodwin, possibly Zoran, Bogdan Bogdanovich in two years, the Suns won’t feel a need to pay GGreen (7-8 million?) with all these possibilities for future wing scoring.

Dragic has indicated he will not try to break the Suns bank next summer. That’s not to say that teams like the Knicks or Lakers won’t seriously tempt Goran with huge offers, but I feel very sure Sarver is not thinking about a Dragic trade this season. Dragic is not getting moved...at least anytime soon. Not going to happen. You can argue that choosing to keep Dragic is not good basketball IQ. Or that hoping/trusting he’ll stay because he’s the “face of the franchise” ...the fan’s favorite is a bad gamble. Your argument might be right, but I’m telling you he won’t be traded this season.

The Dragic, Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas “hydra” will be closely examined this year, and possibly into next. With the three of them being payed ‘round abouts 38-40 million combined by next season, one of them will probably be moved either after this season or deadline next. It’s not the 40 million dollar figure, it’s just where it resides. Some serious money will need to go into the Suns frontcourt, if they are to consider a legit title run in 2 or 3 years.

Eventually all these young players will have to get paid if they are worth it, but that is not a serious issue for Sarver until at least summer ‘16.

If the conditions are right and the right FA is available next summer, Sarver might “go in” early. If it’s not there, he’ll probably wait. But Sarver is very willing to pay plenty if contending (Suns a top 5 team) is a strong possibility. He’ll go into the luxury tax as in the past, but given the Suns current salary prospectus and the rapidly rising cap, it won’t be a debate Sarver has to wrestle with for awhile.

    Relating this to the Rockets?

Signing Bledsoe, even to uncomfortably high numbers will not open the door to Dragic being moved before Goran’s free agency. The only crazy, crazy possible from a Suns perspective, would be a Dragic-Harden deal (more parts would have to be involved) and I only mention it because I don’t see any other way Houston gets Dragic anytime soon. Makes no sense for the Rockets and it would be really wierd for the Suns. No way.

Trading for Bledsoe? Yeah, but hard to see it happening anytime soon with the Rockets. Houston just doesn’t have the parts the Suns are looking for...better put, the Suns are not in the market for “parts”. They’re are over loaded with young players and draft picks. If they move Bledsoe, they want an all-star or a near all-star in return. It’s my estimation that the Suns’ plan for Bledsoe has been to get him on a good contract, build up his resume and then move him when the perfect deal presents itself. That’s not to say that they’re not open to the idea of EB sticking around for a long time, IMO he is mostly viewed as an asset. A Harden-Bledsoe backcourt could be tremendous. A great ying-yang of offense and defense.

Thomas could be the odd PG out...the asset the Suns parlay for front court help, but I just don’t see it happening until after the season at the very earliest.

Ennis? Yes. But what is he worth to the Rockets right now?

So. I will say, if Rocket fans are thinking a signed Bledsoe is an opening for a trade with the Suns? I just don’t see it in the near term. 1. The Suns want to continue in mad scientist mode...do further lab work with the possibilities and personalities this year. 2. The Rockets don’t have the trade piece(s) the Suns wanting in a PG trade. 3. The “Sarver is cheap” rationale is over-hyped, and even if there is some truth, his frugality won’t be tested for a couple years.

It's weird how Drew tweets something and everyone calls him a fraud, but Plowman basically agrees with him and everyone wants emails from Plowman. Either they're both right or both wrong.
