They never "re-uped" McHale. He's still playing under his original contract which ends after this season. Please leave if you don't like it or care to say the truth.
Cyberx, I think you mentioned a while back that ownership is beginning to question McHale and you also mentioned the Rockets possibly bringing in Bowen to help Harden's defense. (Sorry if I'm mixing you up with someone else). Is any of this related to this being said in public? Is Bowen hunting for a job with us? How in trouble is McHale this season from what you know?
Dude. It's a team option. They picked it up when they could have said goodbye without paying a cent. That's a re-up. Oh, believe me. I've thought about it. But then I think, no matter how many McCarthyists in diapers come in here, it's still my team.
If Bruce Bowen wants to come in and help our defense and has decent coaching ability, the Rockets will surely evaluate him and consider adding him to the staff. At this point, I'm hoping he does actually demonstrate enough defensive understanding and coaching ability to impress the Rockets. Or anyone really. Rockets need to keep actively looking for their defense coach. Honestly I'm surprised there's a dearth of such assistants.
This is dumb Harden had the same defensive lapse here as he did in OKC http://youtu.be/i2Fq2SgbJ4M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds1IqYGDgh0
Just to stress that was Boozer taking him off the dribble, I have never seen Harden that bad 1v1 here in Houston.
Obviously. I've been saying a lot of the same thing. Even with Ariza, Bev, Howard our defense will still be average at best. McHale is not going to lead this team to the finals, so we are just wasting Harden/Howard years with him.
He put that perfectly. And we won't ever be a dynasty like we want to be until we get a coach who can game plan and hold players accountable
Wesley Mathews shutting down Harden in the playoffs : Harden defending Kobe well. Just saying. Is Mathews a defensive stopper like Harden was in OKC? Or maybe, being the best two guard in the league doesn't mean as much as it used to.
Wow thank you captain obvious aka Bruce Bowen. Will, I am right there with you on questioning our front office. FIBA basketball should have also shown how lost our players are on defense. Two of our guys in Dmo and Harden looked lost in international play on the defensive end. Our guys do not practice a good culture on the defensive end and it is definitely something that should be practiced on as a daily routine. I understand giving Mchale another chance but we've yet to look at a Defensive Specialist for an assistant. How long will it take for this team to realize that none of the guys that we are looking to pick up for the assistant job is not going to ask for the head coaching position?
Bruce Bowen was one of the dirtiest players I've ever seen, but that doesn't mean what he's saying isn't true. When Harden says "I have to play better", he's essentially quoting his clueless coach. But that's not how you improve as a player or a team. McHale's biggest problem as a coach is that he doesn't know how to teach these guys. You think Pop is great by just barking at Parker and Duncan and the rest of the Spurs from the sidelines that they have "play harder" or "don't let the ball get sticky"? Hell, no. He drills it in these guys heads what to do in practice and during games, so that they become a well-oiled machine out there on the floor. Why do you think they've been able to rebuild so many times during the Duncan era without missing a beat? Now I understand that a guy like Pop isn't available for Morey and Les to just go out and sign, but there are coaches out there who are capable of providing the proper instruction young, undisciplined players like Harden so desperately need. There was no need to bring McHale back for another season when the Rockets were under no financial or contractual obligation to do so. Especially given the way the team collapsed down the stretch all 3 seasons he's been here and lost to an inferior Blazers squad last year(on an amateurish defensive breakdown no less).
Harden's D at OKC was never good. It might not have been atrocious because he had a lot less duties on offense. But even if McHale tells him just shoot 3s and play defense, he's not going to turn into Ariza. McHale part I agree with.
It might seem obvious, but it is still only speculation. Bruce doesn't know what goes on in practice, he doesn't know what goes on on the sideline, and neither do we.
