You're right. Let's get started with Howard and Harden missing the entire season with injuries, and winning 20 games. Then we'll draft a top ten all time player with our #1 overall pick. Then in 2015-16 we can go to work.
Um, they were good before that too. Remember David Robinson? He didn't have too many losing seasons. The Spurs have the highest winning percentage in the last 50 years of all major professional sports. Having 15 years of Duncan doesn't cover 35 extra years. It's a great organization even without Pop or Duncan or any "lucky" draft picks. See above: Pop didn't start anything but the championships… they were already winning.
The Spurs were 4 games under .500 in 13 NBA seasons before drafting one of the 30 players ever to win an MVP, followed by drafting one of the 12 player to ever win more than one MVP. They are 1 of 5 sets of MVP teammates in league history.
How can a thread get bumped telling DM the GM he's wrong when the title's grammar is just so wrong???
If being filled in around role players, and just winning a couple playoff series here and there was cool, Dwight would still be in Orlando.
The Spurs core is already 3 players, the same 3 it has had while it has flushed dozens of roleplayers for years. In fact, the Spurs pioneered the concept that from roleplayers, you aren't actually buying the players, you're buying the skillsets, the faces aren't really important in the wash up. You might want to consider listening to RC Buford one day.
We should ignore YOU. You have no perspective on NBA basketball outside of Daryl Morey. You guys are worst than Lin fans
So? The only big 3 that can actually take nights off while the "role players" perform at very high levels. The difference is the Spurs management were smart enough to hire a great COACH that implemented a system where role players could maximize their potential. The Rockets should've overstocked on solid role players to add depth and experience. We also should've fired Mchale
The Spurs have three superstars and their role players were vastly superior to ours even before we let go of Parsons, Asik and Lin (See Kawahi Leonard).
This I agree with, We didn't need to do anything but trade Asik for better role players and let go of Mchale. A better back up point guard woulda been nice, while allowing Lin to back up Harden.
Saying that rational objective fans are worse than Lin fans puts you on the wrong side of that equation, I'm afraid. GM's don't get fired for all the free agents they weren't able to sign.
Exactly. GoRox is probably goodbug and just posts to troll the board. If you look at his post history he either doesn't post when something good happens (ie Harden trade, Howard signing), or he comes in and takes a dump on what happens and hides behind stuff like having standards, insulting posters for being Morey fanboys and accusing the team of not being like the Spurs. Sorry but you can't be like the Spurs, you'd have to have Popovich, Tim Duncan and the Admiral to be the Spurs. Filling your team with role players doesn't make you into the Spurs, it just means you have a bunch of roleplayers and it is literally the most assbackwards idea I've ever heard. Role players don't define the Spurs, it is coaching and Duncan/Parker/Many that define the Spurs. Unless you can pirate Pops then being like the Spurs is just a Pipedream.
Not exclusively, no. They get graded by what they were able to build out of available resources. Or at least, that's what I think they should be graded on.
