Oh, Martinez. I was responding to the guy who commented about How good Altuve would be in a great lineup, and the OPS numbers fit when he was saying. My mistake.
Interesting game today, announcers saying how he wasn't playing the sound of the bat in the outfield. Next guy up, chunks it, and he again stepped first to the wall, but recovered. Lucky.
You forget to mention that he was complete garbage when he played for the Stros and they were totally justified in getting rid of him.
And he was benched by our ex-manager for swinging at the first pitch. Even though other players did the same exact thing.
It probably didn't help Martinez when his manager benched him in the middle of a game because he swung at a first pitch strike (and made an out) after the previous hitter also swung at a first pitch. It's hard to be a good hitter if you are having to be concerned about swinging at a strike. Kind of a stupid rule to have on a team.
When he regresses to his mean no one of these Pro J.D.'ers (anti-Lunhow) are going to take any ownership of him.
I've been waiting for him to regress to his mean for the last couple months. Tonight he hit a 3 run homer to win the game for the Tigers in the ninth inning. With a month left in the season, he's hitting .311, OPS of .911 with a WAR of 3.0. Agree with other posters that Luhnow's supercomputer may have had a glitch in spring training.
He did not have a good spring, in limited ABs. 2 of the guys he was in competition with, Grossman and Krauss, had very good springs. Another, Hoes, was 3 years younger and showed some promise in his 1st real taste of the bigs in '13. The other, Presley, had the benefit of being able to play good d in CF. He was passed on by every other team in MLB, and was signed to a minor league contract. Something clicked, for this season at least. It happens, and great for him.
I'm ok with the questioning of a lot of moves--esp the Cosart one, even if I'm on board with the move. But this one was a no-brainer, and it really can't be looked at any other way. I can't see J.D. keeping this up long-term over a real season (meaning less time on the DL, less time platooning, no time in the minors, etc.--just a full season as a 80-90% starter)
Yeah, and if you don't go get Singleton's autograph. I will personally send you a hate filled hand written letter.
Honestly I like the astros current options in the outfield better than I like JD Martinez. Yes, JD Martinez can hit, but he can't do anything else better than what the astros have now.
Hangout Boy had a ball signed by Jason Lane, I don't think that's a coincidence either. Then his dog ate it. Also not a coincidence.
Blame Bud Selig for moving us to the AL, so they only come to ATL once every 6 years, though I'm hoping to go to ST next year. And for full disclosure, Mickey Storey & Brad Mills also signed.
