Last year was my first year playing fantasy football, and I don't remember this happening (a young, proven, hyped, workhorse RB being supplanted by his backup).

I didn't say "buy Martin at face value". I said "buy low". "Buying low" means that I've taken into account the recent intel.

I've been playing for 14 years and I've seen it happen repeatedly.

Ultimately the name on the back of the jersey means very little season to season. That is what makes fantasy football so difficult.

Steven Ridley maybe? we all know the reason why but he was pretty dominant in 2012 and drafted pretty high last year in fantasy IIRC. He didn't get supplanted completely, just thrown into a RBBC.

I played 18 yahoo pro leagues last year, and I only had Doug Martin in one league so I have no allegiance to him. I just look at things objectively.

Can you provide any examples similar to the Martin/Rainey situation?

You're also forgetting that Martin hasn't had the luxury of playing behind Logan Mankins.

certainly don't scrap him, but don't go out and trade for him as was suggested.

Ridley isn't comparable. He was drafted in the 2nd/3rd round last year, but even though he under performed, he was still getting a lot of carries throughout the season. This year, he was drafted pretty late b/c of the RBBC.

To me, the best pure runners are Lacy and Bell, and if it is standard league, I don't have a problem with Rainey as the third guy.

However, I will say that you have a lot of fringe runners (Asiata, Rainey, Jennings, Pierce) that are going to have breakout games when you least expect it, and trying to figure out the game you need to start these guys could cost you in fantasy.

To me also, Bell and Lacy are the most likely guys to get a td along with Kendall Wright. So if I were to make a sub, it'd be Wright for Rainey.

Buy low. There's nothing wrong with offering guys like Asiata, T.Richardson, L.Miller, D.Brown, S.Jackson, etc... It's a low-risk move with a potentially high reward.

Maybe you're forgetting Mankins left the game injured as did Martin.

There are numerous examples of backup RBs filling in for broken down starters and putting up better numbers.

I don't believe Rainey will completely take over full-time carries from Martin if Martin returns to full health next week, but I do expect Rainey to be heavily involved in the offense and wouldn't be surprised if he consistently performs better. That is the way things have gone since last season.

if you find someone willing to give up dougie fresh for that low, then certainly. however, i don't find that likely.

And Mankins was there in game 2 when Rainey blew up. My point stands. Martin hasn't had the luxury of playing behind Mankins.

You consider 25 year old Doug Martin to be a broken down starter?

I'm still not sure why anybody has confidence in Doug Martin. The guy has stunk it up all last season, even before the injury he was terrible and he's gotten off to a terrible start this year.

Going off what Doug Martin did two years ago is idiotic based on the fact that the nfl has such a high rate of turnover in players and you may not get the perfect season like he had that year when everything fell into place 2 years ago.

That doesn't mean rainey is any better or worse, only that at this present moment vouching for the return of doug martin to his former glory amid all the stats that say otherwise is to disregard math.

Remember I said this Bob Rainey owners. Play thursday night guys at your peril. There are three things that give me pause with rainey this week.
    1. Is it a Thursday Night Game? - check
    2. Is Rainey a fringe player? - check
    3. Does it have a dream matchup? - check

When everybody preaches this to be a can't miss play, beware for a let down. I'm just saying.

Oh yeah, #4, did said player have a big week the week before? - check.

Expect a let down from rainey, the juice is pulling to the center.

So you are saying you are happy with what doug martin did last year for your team?

I have Zac Stacy, Stephen Jackson, Bobby Rainey, Isaiah Crowell, and Bernard Pierce.

Currently starting I have Stacy and Jackson.

I just picked up Rainey, should I play him over Jackson......or will Martin take most of the touches?

No, but that's because he was a top 5 pick. If I had gotten his production from a 3rd round pick (where he was drafted this year), I would've been fine.
