...until Thursday, for a conference. Can anybody recommend any nice restaurants, cultural attractions or titty bars [IMG] I should go to? (I know Boston a little bit already, but perhaps some people have some insider tips...)

For the love of god go see a Red Sox game.

    Carry on.

Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.

Check out Newbury Pizza. Second best pizza in the world.

Its on Newbury street not too far from the PRU.

Armani's on Newbury has good scenery.

I also enjoyed taking a walk around the Harvard campus and surrounding area.

#1 Ray's Pizza in Times Square.

By the way, in Houston there is this place on West Gray and Dunvale called Romano's. A couple of NYers run it. Really authentic and 99% of the time really good. Sometimes they get the recipe wrong for some reason(?).

Definitely go see a Red Sox game, and plunk down a 5-spot to get one of those sausage dogs. Awesome stuff...

If you like Italian food, my favorite place is "La Famiglia Giorgio's". Actually any restaurant in the North End (the "Italian District") is just about going to kick ass. I love La Famiglia Giorgio's because the portions are massive and the bill doesn't kill you. It's fun though with a party of people.... plates are so big that everyone orders something and it's just buffet on everyone's food.

And if you have any room left for dessert, go down the street to Mike's Pastry. It's famous... you go in there and there are huge photos of the owner and staff with President Clinton (he went there every time he came to Boston). EVERYTHING is good... but have your order ready. It's "Soup Nazi"-esque because the place is packed and the staff has no time for you to think about what you want once up there.

Third here. I lived up in that area of the country for 5 years and never made it to a sox game, hopefully I'll get another shot.

Thanks a lot for all the good advice. There is a "Take me out to the ball game" reception tomorrow, so I don't know if that means they are going to take us to a game afterwards? [IMG]

I will definitely try the "Famiglia Giorgio's" place and the Newbury pizza place and the pastry place...I guess that will already cover the few days I have here.

So nobody knows any titty bars in Boston...wasn't there somebody who was talking about spending almost all his time with dancers in Houston or something...? [IMG]

Well, I was kidding about that anyway... [IMG]

Det...for beers, go check out the Green Dragon, about a block from Fanueil Hall. The American Revolution was started over beers there.

Another fun place is the CanTab Lounge in Cambridge, for cheap cold beer and R&B music.

If you like more modern underground music, check out the legendary punk club called the Rathskeller (also known as the Rat) around the corner from Fenway Park.

There are lots & lots of cool used CD stores along Massachussets Ave. in Cambridge across from Harvard.

Avoid, at all costs, going to Cheers for beers.

The previous posters are correct. At all costs, go see a Red Sox game. And Clutch is right on about the North End. I've been to both the restaurant and the pastry shop he listed, and both are killer.

Another good restaurant for cheap but good seafood is the No Name Restaurant on the waterfront at the harbor. No frills but good chowder, lobster, & fried seafood. Bring cash cuz I don't think they take plastic!

That's about all I can remember for now. Enjoy!

    1. Go to the North End. I'm not familiar with the specific restaurant Clutch named... but almost all[/b[ of them have fantastic Italian. Get desert at one of the little bakeries in the area afterward... really delicious.

    2. Legal Seafoods. Yes, it's a cliche, and is not really a secret anymore, but they do have delicious seafood for relatively cheap prices. They cater a lot of Presidential events, etc.

    3. Walk up Newbury street, but do not go to the Armani Cafe. It's way overrated and expensive. newbury st + copley mall is one of the top 10 rated shopping districts in the world, though. Don't know if you're shopping, however...

    4. Cambridge or Jamaica Plain... IMO, they're a little bit redundant, so if you only have a little time go to one or the other. Lots of neat boutiques, craftshops, and quirky wine-bars.

    5. The Freedom Trail. It's a bit touristy, but it's one of the better attractions. you begin the common, and end with the USS Constitution or Bunker Hill. Lots of interesting stuff on the way.

    6. Ain't no way you're getting Red Sox tickets. I have tickets to the Rangers game on thne 6th, and had to order them months in advance. here are usually scalpers... but that can get pricey

    7. If you like clubbing, go to Landsdowne street. The Avalon is my personal favorite, although the others except karma are nice as well.

    8. Blue Cat cafe, House of blues, and Shakespeare in the Park (the commons) are all nice evening attractions.

    9. My personal favorite restaurant: Bomboa. It's in the South End/Back bay area, and is really FRICKING superb. Very expensive though.

    10. If you want to go to a bar, go to Jillian's and not Cheers. Jillians is nots of fun with pool tables and the works... Cheers sucks and sells you crappy hamburgers for more tahn they're worth.

If you're curious about anythign else, let me know. I live here, after all [IMG].

I went to that Famiglia place (on Newbury Street). Oh my God, it was so much food that I felt like a balloon afterwards. But it was very good. Only problem is that there was a lot of garlic on something I ate, so that will probably be appreciated at the conference today [IMG].

There's a bad ass italian pizza place in Winthrop, MA (five minutes away from Logan)

A few blocks away from the blue line. I forget its name but just yelp pizza and it comes up with most stars and reviews.

wow, this thread was before the Big Dig completed. As Clutch said, North End is still can't miss, when it comes to restaurants, especially seafood.

Was just there 3 weeks ago, my company wants me to move there. sigh
