Between this game and the Dynamo game, I'm feeling pretty frustrated.

I still can't get over the lackadaisacal play at the end by Texas. That was just utterly pathetic clock management. I hope Strong gets destroyed by the media and he deserves it. Run the ****ing clock out after the fumble recovery you stupid idiot.

Well, the extra possession UCLA got at the start of the 2nd half actually cost us the game.

At least we know that we will have a decent quarter back for another couple of years

and a lock again after he signed the extension.

You have to hand it to the team for playing hard and almost pulling this one out. Swoops still looks below average. That long completion was really overthrown and we were lucky the WR got to it.

They got the extra possession to start the game. UCLA won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half, Desmond Jackson inexplicably chose not to receive the ball to start the game, the official asked him twice if that was what he wanted.

Has that ever happened before in the history of football? The same team kicking off beginning the first and second half.

Yup - Texas did by choice either early in the Mack Brown era or in the John Mackovic era. The argument the coach made was that we wanted to pick sides so we could have the wind at our back at certain times. I don't remember the game but I believe it didn't work out for us in that game either, not surprisingly.

Slocum did it once or twice; Stoops did it against A&M in 2002.

I agree they probably should have run out the clock, but the decision wasn't that cut and dried - the ONLY success they had in the entirety of the second half on offense was the hurry-up offense on the previous drive, so they kept it up (probably to get one first down, then run out the clock).

That said, I probably would have played it slow like you suggest (and had that failed, he probably would have been in trouble for going away from the hurry up as it was actually working.

I think the announcers said Jim Mora, the UCLA head coach, had the same thing happen to them 2 years ago.

As for clock management, in hindsight, you can say that UCLA scored on the very next play and running the clock didn't matter. But, it was still the wrong strategic move. 56 seconds off the clock with 2 runs isn't using the playclock to your advantage. I don't know how Strong can justify that. Will he blame the kids again?
