I'm pretty sure somewhere in this you've basically compared an adult female to a child. Not a good argument. Even when women's rights were less back in the day, I've never heard a statement from a male to the court "Well I had to b**** slap her to keep her in line" and win the jury/judge with that. And as far as the kid having a disagreement with the bigger person, that bigger person is his parent; parents are in charge for a reason . The relationship between a parent/child is totally different from 2 adults. You trying to define what child abuse is and basically saying that's apple to apple in one adult punching another in the face is pretty astounding.
So for the folks that think it is up to the parent to decide how to discipline their child....Are you OK with that parent opening up the skin and causing bloody wounds on multiple locations of the body of a 4 year old including the scrotum? Based on the pictures and story, this isn't a simple case of a child getting a 'whupping' and having a red mark on the butt for an hour or two.
There is a fine line between punishment/discipline and abuse.. This is too far. Even if it wasn't his intention to go this far, he did. A drunk driver doesn't intend to injure someone but is still responsible.
for a sport that encourages aggression and hitting opponents, perhaps players need debriefing to be reminded that their bodies become dangerous weapons against ordinary people. Something like boxers know they cannot use their fists in public.
I've never been spanked by my parents and have never thought about spanking my children if/when I have them. It appears that the people who are somewhat defending Peterson in this thread were spanked by their parents themselves. There are ways to discipline your child without resorting to violence, to me, you have not exhausted all of the options. People who support spanking are just defending lazy parenting IMO, and the potential damage you can inflict on your child psychologically and physically does not outweigh the "ease" of spanking.
How old was the kid in that youtube clip who was terrorizing Chucky Cheese? He looked pretty young, I'd like to think someone gave him a whipping like the one it appears AP gave.
Peterson got too emotional, overreacted and thus crossed the line. For starters, a 4 year old is too young for the switch. Beyond that...a switch, if used properly as a disciplinary tool, should not result in skin lacerations.
Wellp, another player down for my fantasy team is the NFL does go over the top with his suspension. I can just see it right now -- 10-12 games for this just because of all this PR over the Ray Rice ****. RIP Fantasy Team.

The reason you haven't heard it, is because we're so far removed from men doing as they wish with their women. It just means we're way behind in learning to deal with children. It's not the same situation, but comparable, since both cases involve a disagreement between two parties and the winner was the one who was able to intimidate and beat up on the other. You may say a parent has the right because he's raising their kid, but how is it that it's more acceptable for the bigger physical mismatch to be resolved by hitting? A parent already has full control of the kid's life, do they really need to resort to hitting them so much, if at all? Like I said, they're better ways to discipline, even with spanking. In this case, AP already basically admitted he went too far.
We don't know the severity of this discipline administered by Peterson to this child. Evidently, some people who have a lot more facts than we do, think Peterson went way over the line. We should wait to get more details before making any judgements.
We don't? There are pictures, texts, and a story written using AP and the kid's own POV. Only video would make things any clearer.
****, man. Not sure about football anymore, I might just have to go back to watching scandal-free unsullied baseball.
