CBS Drops Rihanna as Thursday NFL Opener Amid Ray Rice Scandal

    Quote:
CBS has changed its Thursday night pregame lineup, dropping an opening song from Rihanna, Sports Illustrated reported Thursday evening.

CBS Sports officials told SI that in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal, the network would not open the game with Rihanna's "Run This Town," and would not feature Don Cheadle's narration. It has also dropped a comedy segment that was set to air. Instead, CBS will open the coverage with a report about Rice from CBS This Morning anchor Norah O'Donnell.

“It’s important to realize we are not overacting to this story but it is as big a story as has faced the NFL,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told SI. “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage. A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”

It has not been confirmed whether Rihanna's song was pulled just from this game or from all Thursday night games in the season.

I didn't say I agree with the DA. It is the case that some DA's are not apt to press charges when the victim refuses to testify.

What Ray Rice did was wrong but Suggs is a damn fool.

I don't have a link but I was listening to the Numbers Never Lie podcast (yesterday) and they said under Goodell's watch 56 players had some type of domestic violence chargers brought against them. That's a small amount considering there's around 1800-1900 players in the NFL yearly compared to the 1-4 women who experience violence in the rest of society. But of those 56 players only 13 games were missed and people didn't complain about it so Goodell was just handling Ray Rice how he normally does.

Moon was a black man, who played the quarterback position, during the 90's ---> In Texas, so what did you expect...

She dumped his ass for Drake, then dumped Drake

This is backwards, if it was Chris Brown performing then that would be a bad idea

Clearly, for the public outrage that's ensued after TMZ released the 2nd video. Rice should have been dealt harsher punishment earlier this year, both criminally (by the DA) and professionally (by the NFL).

Everything the NFL/Ravens have done this week is purely reactionary PR, nothing more. It's a sham.

They should have played it at their wedding.

Yup.. hate how people are made to feel guilty for questioning the ball and chain connection of abused victims unable to detach from their abusers. even if it's not about the $$$, it's the mental damage and fear of not knowing anything else.

Ray Rice should be banned for life.

he lies to and hides information from the public to maintain the NFL's "integrity." if you're a NFL stakeholder he has done a great job.
