Clapton's "woman tone" on "Sunshine of my love", Hendrix's on "Voodoo Child" and SRV's on "Texas flood" are legendary examples of virtuoso pulling off memorable tone.

    So, what've you got?

SRV end of the concert tone when he just turned all the amps knobs all the way up.

I always liked the warm guitar sound of Neil Young with Crazy Horse.

The latest album, Psychedelic Pill, has a lot of examples of this style.

Gilmour was the master of tone. Was the only guitarist I can think of who's tone carried the songs rather than his technical skill. Comfortably Numb, Have a Cigar, Sorrow, SoYCD, Time, Money.

Could make guitar cry like no other.

What made him bad after you stopped?

And why was he pretty good only when you took the lessons? Teacher's pet? -_-
