No proof exists that Ray Lewis murdered anyone. While he was out at a Super Bowl XXXIV party, a fight broke out between Lewis and his crew and another group. Two people were stabbed to death. What Lewis did was lie to the police about his not being at the scene. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were questioned by Atlanta police, and 11 days later the three men were indicted on murder and aggravated-assault charges. The blood-stained suit you mention was never found. A knife found at the scene had no fingerprints or DNA but Baker's blood was found in Lewis' limo. Two weeks into the trial Lewis's attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, negotiated a plea agreement with the District Attorney where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice. Lewis admitted he lied to police on the morning after the killings (initially telling them that he was not at the scene). Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation. One year in prison is the maximum sentence for a first-time offender and the immediate probation was the judge's decision. He was also fined $250,000 by the NFL, which was believed to be the highest fine levied against an NFL player for an infraction not involving substance abuse. Oakley and Sweeting were acquitted of the charges in June 2000. No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime. As for the wearing of glasses, Michael Irvin and Rick Perry both wear glasses now for much the same reason.
Uhh, he's being deliberately sarcastic to make a point about the hypocrisy of these situations - particularly the justice system itself. Ray Rice commits first-degree assault and battery and gets a slap on the wrist and is welcomed back to the Ravens with open arms. Josh Brent drives drunk (again) and kills his best friend and gets 6 months in jail which was later reduced to 4 months so he could enter a drug treatment program. I wonder what the punishment will be the next time he kills someone while driving drunk. If this was you or I, we'd be re-enacting our own version of "Orange Is The New Black". Uh, because Goodell ignored the evidence. He basically let Rice off the hook in a case where a man beat a woman. Unforgivable offense. He's been utter crap as a commissioner.
Goodell, the NFL, and the Ravens were shamed into making these new punishments, plain and simple. What a great example as 'America's Game'.
I'm glad people are outraged about this Ray Rice situation. If the Vick dog fighting incident had more publicity than this, I would worry for society.
Why is consistency a good? I'd rather have an outcome that is half good and half bad than all bad. That judge and that DA deserve to go too. But just because they ****ed up doesn't mean that the NFL and the Ravens are absolved of wrongdoing. Heads should roll. This is a travesty. The first video was enough. Self-defense or not, knocking someone out cold and then dragging her is never justified. It's sad that we're still seeing these awful, victim-blaming comments. "I can't believe she married him", "Well she chose to be in that situation." I urge all of you with this opinion to look up the psychology of domestic abuse. This is a sad, sad situation. And everyone should be angry.
Also, as far as Goodell is concerned... Everyone in the world obviously knew that Rice knocked out his fiance. The question was why or how it happened. Assuming the video was never seen before, Goodell gave a 2 game suspension because of the off chance that Janay instigated it and Rice was provoked to the point where he had to knock her out. In other words, Goodell is basically saying that punishment of hitting a woman is based on mitigating circumstances. That alone should knock him out of the league...in similar fashion to Donald Sterling and his expulsion from the NBA. There should be zero tolerance when it comes to racism and domestic abuse in sports. Having said all that, there is no way Goodell didnt see the tape...or, he just chose not to. Im sure he's ****ting his pants tonight with advisors trying to figure out how to get out of this mess. In the end, he just needs to do like Rice and leave the game.
Are you seriously this lost? Was Donald Sterling punished by the legal system? There is a certain code of conduct and ethics that need to be upheld when you hold a position of power in a company. This has nothing to do with the legal system and everything to do with the fact that Goodell basically tried to sweep a domestic violence issue under the rug.

You have mentioned that Vick killed 20+ dogs and probably more. The number was 6-8, was it not? And it wasnt him acting alone, he was with a group of other people. What Vick did was stupid, but he served his time and lost 100 million dollars. Rice should get a lifetime ban from the NFL.
