The credit the Ravens deserve depends on what they knew. If they were really in the dark about exactly what happened, then I commend them.

If they saw this beforehand, or received an account of this happening, they are awful for standing behind him.

The story is that he lied about how it happened, he probably said he pushed her and she hit her head or that she attacked him and he shoved her. The video is pretty clear that he just knocked her out.

I'm sure he's not broke, and likely far from it. He can buy property, open businesses that he doesn't have to be the face of, etc.

He should be more worried about a likely divorce coming in the next few years or so. Hopefully he takes a ratchet to his finances and keeps them tight. For his sake anyway.

We didn't know if his fiancee was an aggressor, and we didn't know exactly how/why she passed out. We also didn't know that he showed no concern for her well being immediately afterwards. Given his legal punishment, I expected something very different than what was on the video.

I'm curious to what the salary cap ramifications are for cutting him. Is it no change to the cap in 2014 and then just the dead money hit in 2015?

Agreed on the first part but not sure about Rice. If Vick can come back, anything is really possible.

Damn, if I was the young woman's dad I would beat his ass!! He hit her like a man and she could have died/been paralyzed from her head hitting the rail.

Vick was gone for 3 years, which helped a lot.

Rice will try to be back next year. If I'm him, I'm trying to get on with the CFL for the remainder of their season, and then see if I get any bites next season from the NFL.

I think the NFL and sports in general are becoming highly sensitive to PR. Any team that signs Rice at this point is taking a huge, huge risk. I dont think it's a game any team is willing to play. Not to mention, he may never get reinstated by the NFL.

Sure it's a possibility that Rice plays again, but I think it's highly likely that his career is over. By the time the NFL would be ready to have him back, he'll be almost 29 years old. No team needs that kind of a circus if it means signing a RB that will be mediocre at that point. If he was 23, then sure, a team might possibly take a chance on him, but he's been on a slow slide for a couple years now...and by the time the NFL accepts him back in (if they do), then he will be a step too slow to really make any impact on the field.

I'd be shocked if Goodell reinstates Rice by next season. Specially after the backlash the NFL is getting over this case.

Dude, I agree with everything you said here. All I was attempting to convey is that good people make bad decisions too - especially when alcohol is involved. Furthermore, I think that we (as a society) tend to pass unfair judgement on people too quickly when we know nothing about their personal life or their inner character.

I am in no means defending RR. I think what he did was absolutely dreadful, which I have noted several times in this thread. Is he a bad person for doing this? Maybe. Do I think this is the first time he has done it? No, probably not. Maybe he needs help with anger/rage management, but overall is a good person. Just trying to add a little perspective to those who are so quick to pass judgement on another.

To fan the flames a little bit, let's throw Jim Brown into the mix. This beloved HOFer (and current Brown's advisor), activist, and legendary figure was also guilty of hitting his wives and girlfriends. Also, he is the founder of several organizations to aid african american entrepreneurs, and stopping inner city violence. Where do you stand on him?

Killing dogs is worse. They're innocent and defenseless animals.

Rice's wife has a choice. No one is putting a gun to her head and making her stay with him. That's on her.

I'm sorry: just have to repost and emphasize how awesome this is.

They're both bad, no need to argue that. Difference here, Michael Vick served his punishment.

Last time I looked dogs are not people. Vick got far more punishment than Josh Brent who actually KILLED someone yet he's welcomed back with open arms in Cowboys land while folks are still harping on Vick for dogfighting AFTER he served real prison time. The NFL is a total joke. The Ravens, police & the NFL all had access to that TMZ video yet chose to do nothing because Rice played professional football. Had either video not been released by TMZ, Rice would still playing football and punching out his lady with the tacit approval of all involved. It took the incident becoming a PR nightmare before the NFL & Ravens were forced stopped kissing Rice's a$$ and do the right thing.

And judging from your last line, you are totally clueless about domestic violence else you wouldn't be blaming the victim for the actions of the abuser.
