Uh. Dude. Do you read what you write? 1) NBA.com is a complete list of completed transactions. 2) NBA.com is not a complete list of completed transactions. These cannot be true simultaneously. Pick one for christ's sake.
Contracts are contingent on being able to pass the physical. Contract can be revoked if you fail the physical.
Why are you asking ME about whether closed-door physicals have been conducted? How the hell do I know? I only know that the signings are official and have officially been announced . . . officially. Also, if it's only a matter of time before the NBA.com Transactions page is updated, go ahead and ask them if the Rockets have OFFICIALLY signed Josh Powell yet. That transaction (from mid-April) is still not on the site and probably never will be. Okay, enough of my life has been wasted on this (non-)issue. Let's talk about something else next time.
In all seriousness, these "theories" and "inside info" were going to be posted SOMEWHERE. If anything it consolidates the nonsense into one extremely lengthy thread that no one would ever bother reading from start to finish. The crap thrown around here is the same crap that would have been thrown around in every other thread. It's the offseason people. Every offseason is like this. People are just getting antsy and are annoyed that we didn't get a superteam. That coupled with the way we lost in the first round. It's obvious everyone just wants to get better and return to the top of the league. I have faith in Morey. I have faith in Les. And I have faith in Harden and Howard. We are in good hands. This is Yao and Tmac without the health issues and with a GM who understands where to find good role players and maximize our talent. 3 weeks to training camp guys, just continue breathing, it will all pass soon. #soon.
Do you expect the new TV deal (reportedly being $2 Billion per year) having any ramifications on the salary cap under the current CBA? For instance, if the deal goes through as reported, could the cap jump to, say, $75 million?
Bima probably has his own thesis on this, but I think the obvious thing to watch for with the CBA to change drastically is how they come out of the 2016/17 season lockout with the players (and yes, its almost surely going to be a lockout season). With the projections for next year at 66.5M cap & 81M lux tax, you would think wouldn't be affected much for the 2015/16 season. As Morey and his capologist team do, I'm sure they are probably preparing more on these projected figures more than they are into any hypothetical's that could happen with the TV deal that could affect the salary cap next year. All signs point towards a major jump coming out of the 2016/17 lockout. Also, I wouldn't expect the TV deal to be done that rapidly just because they started negotiating over the weekend. Getting a 3rd network (Fox1 rumored) could drag this negotiations out for awhile. I don't see it affecting this next year's cap that much immediately.
Oh no doubt 2016-2017 will be a battle of epic proportions considering the money that's being pumped into the league, either directly (TV deals) or indirectly (racist owners). I think the players and its union will try to find a way to get a slice of that $2 billion a year pie between now and 2016. That's a LOT of money to be left on the table by the players though many could argue that was the players' fault to begin with.
I'm pretty sure the players get some percentage of any new tv deal in terms of increased cap space even without a new agreement.
The current CBA does not expire until July 1, 2017, meaning that the 2016-17 NBA season (the first season entirely under the new national TV deals) will be under the current set of rules governing the calculation of the salary cap and the shares split between the owners and the players. Holding all other variable relatively constant (e.g., non-TV revenues, player benefits, etc.), if payouts on the new TV deals do not COMMENCE until after July 1, 2016--which I doubt--the salary cap could jump from the projected 66.5 million in 2015-16 to nearly $80 MILLION in 2016-17! And if revenues continue to increase even at their current pace, that jump could be even greater!!! Such a huge one-year jump could have disastrous consequences for many teams from a player contract and competitive balance standpoint. THAT is why many teams are planning for the revenues from the new TV deals to be "stair-stepped" into salary cap calculations over the next two years. For instance, rather than a one-year jump of $15-18 million, the league might raise the salary cap $8-10 million or so in each of the next few seasons. This is also why I believe the Rockets are leaving open the very real possibility that they could have "max" cap room next summer, despite what the current projections might dictate. If they are unable to make a significant move for a third star in the coming months, don't think for a second that this possibility will not weigh heavily on their willingness to take multi-year contracts back before next summer.
Thanks as always Bima. As of right now, the Rockets have a little over $56 million in salaries (according to shamsports), not including the Jason Terry trade, for 2015-2016. If the team stands as it is and the salary cap increases from $63 million for 2014-2015 to $73 million for 2015-2016 due to the new TV deals then I guess Morey is really looking at having that max capspace slot.
IIRC that's what the NFL did when it negotiated its new deal... even then there was a IIRC $5M or so bump from what teams anticipated in terms of cap space. Should be interesting! Also, in regards to your previous commentary with ballholic (who I also appreciate reading... MOST of the time), I was giving kudos for a cogent, well-thought out, and researched comment. Those types of comments are ALWAYS appreciated, Sir BT!
No kidding! A pleasure to read your posts, Bima. Stedd, wouldn't you agree that the Rockets would benefit from signing Bima to a contract and inserting him into Morey's gang of intelligent number crunchers? I certainly do!
But the others wait in Casablanca....and wait...and wait..........and wait. To pass the time .... http://houseofhouston.com/2014/09/0...edium=Network&utm_campaign=Around the Network
I'm assuming that Bledsoe and his agent Poor Paul was close to caving in (e.g. your "10-day' period) but then decided against better judgment and logic and decide to "man up" and play this waiting game out to see if they can still get a max deal?
